What is it?
Composition and Dosage Form: Betahistine Dihydrochloride 24mg Tablets: 30 pcs per pack Clinical-Pharmacological Group: Medication for the treatment of vertigo and Meniere's syndrome. Pharmacological Properties: Betahistine is a histamine analog. The preparation causes vasodilation by acting on histamine H1 and H2 receptors. Betahistine regulates blood circulation in the inner ear and reduces endolymphatic pressure. When using the preparation at the appropriate dose, the patient recovers within a few days. In some cases, the recovery process may be prolonged. Generally, treatment should continue until a solid result is achieved. Optimal results can only be achieved with several months of treatment. Pharmacokinetics: After oral administration, betahistine is completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Absorbed betahistine is converted in plasma into two metabolites, which reach peak plasma levels within 3-5 hours. The administered betahistine is completely eliminated as metabolites in the urine within 3 days. Indications: Used for hearing loss associated with Meniere's syndrome, as well as for vertigo and tinnitus. Dosage Regimen: Usually, the initial dose is 32-48 mg per day, taken 2-3 times. It is advisable to take the preparation with food. The maintenance dose is determined individually and depends on the patient's response to treatment. If the daily dose is 48 mg, Betahistine-Normon can be used 3 times a day. The preparation should not be used without consulting a doctor. Betahistine-Normon is not used in children due to a lack of sufficient information. Side Effects: Gastrointestinal tract: dyspeptic events, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, increased acidity, diarrhea. Facial hyperemia. Skin: hyperemia, itching, rash, and urticaria. Contraindications: Pheochromocytoma; hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation. Pregnancy and Lactation: Although experimental studies in animals have shown no teratogenic effect of high doses of betahistine, its use in pregnant women is not recommended.
