Properties

What is it?

International Nonproprietary Name - betamethasone Clinical-pharmacological group: Dermatology → Anti-inflammatory agents → Glucocorticosteroids for external use Composition of the medicinal product: Active substance: betamethasone; 1 gram of ointment contains 1 mg of betamethasone equivalent to betamethasone 17-valerate. Excipients: White petrolatum, mineral oil. Dosage form: Ointment Basic physical and chemical properties: White, homogeneous ointment of soft consistency, free of foreign inclusions. Pharmaceutical group: Corticosteroids for dermatological use. ATC code: D07A C01. Pharmacological properties Celestoderm-V, ointment or cream, has local anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, anti-exudative, and vasoconstrictive effects. Methods of administration and dosage. Celestoderm-V is applied in a thin layer to the entire affected area of the skin, 1-3 times a day, depending on the severity of the condition. In most cases, 1-2 applications per day are sufficient to achieve the effect. The frequency of application of the preparation is determined by the severity of the lesion. In mild cases, it is used once a day, and in more severe lesions, the frequency of use should be increased. It is not intended for use under occlusive dressings, as this may increase the side effects of the preparation. The duration of continuous use of the preparation should not exceed 4 weeks. After achieving the therapeutic effect, the frequency of use of Celestoderm-V should be reduced, or it should be replaced with a less active corticosteroid for topical use, and maintenance therapy should be continued with gradual withdrawal of the preparation. If the condition does not improve or worsens within 2-4 weeks of therapy, a repeat examination and review of the prescribed treatment are necessary. Side effects. When using topical corticosteroids, especially under occlusive dressings, the following side effects may occur: burning sensation, itching, irritation, skin dryness, folliculitis, hypertrichosis, acneiform eruptions, hypopigmentation, perioral dermatitis and allergic contact dermatitis, skin maceration, secondary infection, skin atrophy, striae, and miliaria. The skin of the face, the skin under the hair, and the skin of the genitals are particularly sensitive to local side effects. After withdrawal of potent topical corticosteroids, including Celestoderm-V, used for a long time to treat dermatoses, the signs and symptoms of the disease may worsen, leading to dependence on topical corticosteroids. All adverse events registered when prescribing systemic glucocorticosteroids, including suppression of hypothalamic-pituitary system function, can occur when prescribing potent topical glucocorticosteroids.
