What is it?
Trade name: Gentamicin-Akos International Nonproprietary Name: Gentamicin Dosage form: Ointment for external use Composition per 100g of ointment: Active substance: Gentamicin sulfate (calculated as Gentamicin) – 0.1 g. Excipients: Solid paraffin – 0.5 g., Medical petrolatum – up to 100 g. Description: Ointment from white to yellow in color. Pharmacological group: Antibiotic-aminoglycoside Pharmacological action: A broad-spectrum bactericidal antibiotic from the aminoglycoside group. It binds to the 30S subunit of ribosomes and disrupts protein synthesis, thereby hindering the formation of the transport and informational ribonucleic acid complex, leading to misreading of the genetic code and the formation of non-functional proteins; polyribosomes lose their ability to synthesize protein (bacteriostasis). Unlike other antibiotics, aminoglycosides have a bactericidal effect – at high concentrations, they lower the barrier functions of cell membranes and cause the death of microorganisms. Highly effective against bacterial skin infections caused by: Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Proteus vulgaris, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter aerogenes. Pharmacokinetics: Practically not absorbed when used externally. Absorption is rapid from large areas of the skin surface that are damaged (wounds, burns) or covered with granulation tissue. Indications: Bacterial infections of the skin and soft tissues caused by susceptible microflora – pyoderma (including ecthyma), superficial folliculitis, furunculosis, sycosis, paronychia. Infected: dermatitides (including contact, seborrheic, and eczematous), ulcers (including varicose), wounds (including surgical, poorly healing), burns (including plant), insect bites, skin and cyst abscesses, carbuncles; secondary bacterial infection of fungal and viral skin infections. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity (including to other aminoglycosides in history). Special instructions: Treatment should be carried out under the control of an antibioticogram, as resistance may develop with prolonged use. In such cases, treatment should be discontinued and appropriate therapy initiated. When applied to large skin surfaces, the possibility of resorptive action should be considered, especially in patients with chronic renal failure. If there is no therapeutic effect within 1 week, consult a doctor. Dosage form: Ointment for external use 0.1%. 15 g in an aluminum tube. Each tube, along with the instructions for use, is placed in a cardboard box. Shelf life: 3 years. Do not use after the expiry date indicated on the packaging. Storage conditions: List B.
