What is it?
International Nonproprietary Name - heparin Clinical-pharmacological group: Hemostasis → Antithrombotic and Anticoagulant Agents → Direct-acting Anticoagulants Composition Heparin ointment contains (per 100 g) 10,000 IU heparin, 4 g Anesthesin, 0.08 g Benzyl nicotinate, up to 100 g base. The ointment is a homogeneous mass with a sour cream consistency, white or slightly yellowish in color. Pharmacological Properties The preparation is used externally. When applied to the skin, Heparin ointment exhibits a moderately pronounced anti-inflammatory and anti-edema effect, prevents thrombus development, and has local analgesic properties. Indications - Treatment and prevention of superficial vein thrombophlebitis - Localized infiltrates and edema - Trauma and bruises (including muscle tissue, tendons, joints) Dosage and Administration Apply a thin layer of ointment to the affected area (0.5-1.0 g for an area 3-5 cm in diameter) and gently rub into the skin. In case of thrombosis of external hemorrhoidal nodes, a gauze pad soaked with the preparation is directly applied to the thrombosed node. For the same purpose, a tampon soaked with the preparation can be used and inserted into the rectum. Apply the ointment 2-3 times a day daily until inflammatory signs disappear. The preparation is used for an average of 3 to 7 days. A relatively longer course of treatment is determined by the doctor. Contraindications Hypersensitivity to the components of Heparin ointment. Special Instructions Heparin ointment is not recommended for use during bleeding, as well as on open wounds and mucous membranes, and in the presence of purulent processes. The preparation is prescribed with caution in case of increased bleeding from blood vessels. Overdose Cases of overdose are rare due to its low penetration into the systemic circulation.
