Properties

What is it?

Active substance: Iodine + Potassium Iodide Clinical-pharmacological group: Antiseptic agent; Dosage form: Solution for local and external use. Pharmacological properties: Iodinol is a disinfectant solution with broad-spectrum antimicrobial, antifungal, and antiprotozoal activity. Indications: For disinfection of the skin surface before injection and surgical intervention; for aseptic treatment of wounds; for the treatment of bacterial and fungal skin diseases. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to iodine; hyperthyroidism; thyroid adenoma; dermatitis; kidney failure; before administration of radioactive iodine; chemotherapy for thyroid diseases. Side effects: Allergic reactions. Method of administration and dosage: Locally (rinsing, applying gauze pads, applying to tonsils). In chronic tonsillitis, rinse the tonsillar lacunae and supratonsillar space. Perform 4-5 rinses with 2-3 day intervals. Single dose – 50ml. In chronic purulent otitis: daily instillation of 5-8 drops for mesotympanitis and rinsing for epitimpanitis. Course of treatment – 2-4 weeks. In chronic atrophic rhinitis (ozena), after preliminary softening and removal of crusts, pulverize the nasal cavity and pharynx 2-3 times a week for 2-3 months. In trophic and varicose ulcers, apply a gauze pad soaked in the preparation (3 layers) to the ulcer surface (clean the skin beforehand with warm soapy water, and apply zinc ointment to the skin around the ulcer). Bandaging is performed 1-2 times a day, during which the gauze applied to the ulcer surface is not removed, but is re-moistened with the solution. After 4-7 days, a general or local bath is prescribed, then the indicated treatment is continued. For purulent wounds and infectious burns, use loose gauze bandages soaked in the preparation. For fresh thermal and chemical burns of I-II degree, also use gauze bandages soaked in the preparation. Externally, the surgical field is treated twice with 5-7 ml of 1% solution without prior washing (additional skin treatment with ethanol is not required). 1% solution (based on active iodine) is prepared by diluting with sterile or boiled purified water 1:4.5. At the end of the operation, the skin, except for the wound, is re-treated with 5-7 ml of 1% solution. Special instructions: Avoid contact with eyes. Protect from light and temperatures above 400C to prevent decomposition of active iodine. Use only in inpatient settings. Diluted solution is not subject to prolonged storage. The solution should have a dark brown color.
