What is it?

International Nonproprietary Name - ferrous (III) hydroxyde polymaltose complex Clinical-pharmacological group: Hematology → Antianemic preparations → Iron preparations → For internal use Composition 1 ml of syrup contains 10 mg of iron [III] hydroxide in complex with polymaltose. 5 ml of syrup (1 measuring spoon) contains 50 mg of iron [III] hydroxide in complex with polymaltose. Excipients: sucrose, sorbitol solution, methylparahydroxybenzoate, propylparahydroxybenzoate, ethanol 96%, cream essence, purified water, sodium hydroxide. Description Brown transparent solution. Pharmacological group Antianemic preparations, iron preparations, trivalent iron oral preparations. Indications for use Treatment of latent iron deficiency Treatment of iron deficiency anemia (manifest iron deficiency). Prevention of iron deficiency during pregnancy. Contraindications • Hypersensitivity to the active or excipients of the preparation; • Iron overload (e.g., hemochromatosis, hemosiderosis) and disorders of iron utilization (e.g., sideroachrestic anemia, anemia due to lead intoxication, thalassemia). • Anemia not caused by iron deficiency (e.g., hemolytic anemia, megaloblastic anemia associated with vitamin B12 deficiency); • Repeated blood transfusions; • Parenteral iron therapy. Method of administration and dosage For internal use. Take during or immediately after meals. Syrup can be mixed with fruit or vegetable juice in a baby's bottle. Use the measuring spoon to accurately measure the syrup. A slight discoloration does not affect the taste of the baby's juice/food or the efficacy of the preparation. The daily dose can be taken once or divided into several doses. The dose and duration of administration depend on the degree of iron deficiency. Manifest iron deficiency Treatment lasts 3–5 months until hemoglobin levels normalize. After this, the preparation is prescribed for several more weeks to replenish iron stores in the body. Children under 1 year: The initial dose is 2.5 ml (½ measuring spoon) of syrup. The dose is gradually increased to 5 ml (1 measuring spoon) of syrup per day. Children from 1 to 12 years: 5–10 ml (1–2 measuring spoons) of syrup per day. Children over 12 years, adults, nursing mothers: Usually 10–30 ml (2–6 measuring spoons) of syrup per day. Latent iron deficiency Treatment lasts for one to two months. Children under 1 year: Not used for this indication due to the administration of very low doses of the preparation. Children from 1 to 12 years: 2.5–5 ml (½–1 measuring spoon) of syrup per day. Children over 12 years, adults, nursing mothers: 5–10 ml (1–2 measuring spoons) of syrup per day. Pregnant women Manifest iron deficiency 20–30 ml (4–6 measuring spoons) of syrup per day until hemoglobin levels normalize. After this, 10 ml (2 measuring spoons) of syrup per day is prescribed, in extreme cases, until the end of pregnancy to replenish iron stores in the body. Latent iron deficiency and prevention of iron deficiency 5–10 ml (1–2 measuring spoons) of syrup per day
