What is it?
International Nonproprietary Name - levocetirizine Clinical-pharmacological group: Allergology → Histamine H1 receptor antagonists → Systemic drugs → Second-generation preparations Active substance: Each film-coated tablet contains 5 mg of levocetirizine dihydrochloride (equivalent to 4.21 mg of levocetirizine). Indications Levocetirizine is used to treat allergic disorders. Its active substance belongs to the class of antihistamine medicinal products that block H-1 receptors. In adolescents and children over 6 years of age, it is used to treat the symptoms and signs of allergic conditions (sneezing, runny nose, stuffy nose, symptoms from the eyes and skin) such as, for example: - Fever - Persistent allergic rhinitis - Urticaria Dosage and administration Always take the film-coated tablets strictly as prescribed by your doctor. If you are unsure about anything, consult your doctor. The film-coated tablets should be swallowed whole with a liquid; they can be taken independently of food. The duration of the course depends on the nature, duration, and dynamics of the patient's complaints. Usually, fever treatment lasts for 3-6 weeks. Usual doses: Adults and adolescents over 12 years of age: 1 film-coated tablet once a day (1*5 mg). Adolescents aged 6-12 years: 1 film-coated tablet once a day (1*5 mg). For children aged 2-6 years, to ensure treatment safety, it is recommended to use oral drops. It is possible to administer a reduced dose to patients with impaired kidney function. This depends on the severity of kidney damage. The dosage regimen should be determined by a doctor. Dose adjustment is not required in patients with impaired liver function. In patients with simultaneous impairment of kidney and liver function, a reduced dose may be administered depending on the severity of kidney damage. The dosage regimen should be determined by a doctor. Side effects Like all medicinal products, levocetirizine can cause side effects, although they do not occur in all patients. Consult your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects: Common: (1 to 10 patients in 100) Dry mouth, headache, fatigue, drowsiness. Uncommon: (less than 1 patient in 100) Malaise, abdominal pain. Very rare: (less than 1 patient in 10,000) Allergy, shortness of breath, nausea, skin rash, swelling, urticaria, weight gain, impaired liver function. Contraindications Do not take levocetirizine in the following cases: - If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to any other component of the preparation or to so-called "piperazine derivatives"; - If you have severe kidney impairment.
