Ademetionine is widely distributed in all biological systems of the body and participates in various metabolic processes. S-adenosyl-L-methionine participates in three most important metabolic processes: transmethylation, transsulfuration, and aminopropylation. In these reactions, it acts as a methyl group donor or as an enzyme inducer. The multifaceted effects of S-adenosyl-L-methionine on metabolism were the basis for its use in hepatology for the prevention and treatment of intrahepatic cholestasis, and for protecting the liver from hepatotoxic substances, alcohol, drugs, and infectious agents. In addition, Ademetionine is the main source of methyl groups in the brain. It primarily participates in the synthesis of biological polyamines, which play an important role in the transmission of neurohumoral signals and nerve regeneration.
