What is it?
International Nonproprietary Name - montelukast Clinical-pharmacological group: Allergology → Leukotriene receptor antagonists Clinical-pharmacological group: Bronchial asthma and allergic rhinitis treatment. Leukotriene receptor antagonist. Indications: - Prophylactic and long-term therapy of bronchial asthma (including prevention of daytime and nighttime symptoms); - Treatment of patients with aspirin-induced bronchial asthma; - Prevention of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction; - Treatment of symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. Dosage regimen: Tablets For adult patients aged 15 years and older with bronchial asthma and/or allergic rhinitis (seasonal, perennial): the daily dose is one 10 mg film-coated tablet once a day, before bedtime (in the evening). For pediatric patients aged 2–5 years with bronchial asthma and/or allergic rhinitis (seasonal, perennial): the daily dose is one 4 mg chewable tablet once a day, before bedtime (in the evening). For pediatric patients aged 6–14 years with bronchial asthma and/or allergic rhinitis (seasonal, perennial): the daily dose is one 5 mg chewable tablet once a day, before bedtime (in the evening). Granules Children with bronchial asthma and virus-induced bronchoconstriction (from 6 months to 5 years old). Children with seasonal allergic rhinitis (2–5 years old) and perennial allergic rhinitis (from 6 months to 5 years old): Route and method of administration - Open the sachet immediately before use; - Montelukast 4 mg granules are taken only orally; - The preparation can be directly poured into the child's mouth, or mixed with 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of cold or room temperature infant formula or breast milk; - Montelukast 4 mg granules can also be mixed with 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of apple and carrot puree, rice porridge, and ice cream; - The preparation must be given to the child within 15 minutes of mixing; - Montelukast granules are not intended for dissolution in water and other liquids, however, water and liquids can be consumed after taking the medicine. Taking montelukast with food and drinks: Montelukast 4 mg oral granules can be taken by mixing with breast milk or infant formula. It can also be mixed with apple and carrot puree, rice porridge, and ice cream. The preparation must be used within 15 minutes of mixing. In case of a missed dose: Try to take the medicine according to the prescribed regimen. If you forget to take a dose, take the next dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose. Side effects: In general, montelukast is well tolerated. Side effects identified during clinical trials are usually mild and do not require discontinuation of the drug. The total number of side effects of VANSAR is close to placebo effects. Headache is the only side effect that was recorded as a drug-related event in more than 1% of patients receiving montelukast and with greater frequency than in the placebo group. Pharyngitis, upper respiratory tract infections, sinusitis, otitis are also observed. In a placebo-controlled, 2-week study in patients with seasonal allergic rhinitis aged 2–14 years, drug-related adverse reactions were observed in only 1% or slightly more of patients. Identified post-marketing side effects: hypersensitivity reactions (anaphylaxis, angioedema, skin rash, itching, urticaria, and very rarely eosinophilic infiltration of the liver); unusual dreams and hallucinations, lethargy, irritability, restlessness, insomnia, and very rarely convulsions; nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia, diarrhea; myalgia, muscle spasms; increased bleeding, bruising, and swelling, palpitations.
