What is it?
Each 1 mL contains: Ondansetron Hydrochloride USP 2 mg equivalent to Ondansetron, Water for Injection USP Q.S. Excipients: Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Citrate, Citric Acid. Ondansetron Injection is used for: Prevention of nausea (feeling sick) and vomiting caused by: • Chemotherapy in adult cancer patients and in children aged ≥ 6 months. • Radiotherapy in adult cancer patients. Prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting after surgery in adults and in children aged ≥ 1 month. Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Ondansetron Injection is usually given by a nurse or doctor. The dose prescribed for you will depend on the treatment you are receiving. Prevention of nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy or radiotherapy in adults: The recommended dose in adults on the day of chemotherapy or radiotherapy is 8 mg given as an intravenous or intramuscular injection, immediately before treatment, and another 8 mg twelve hours later. The usual intravenous dose for adults does not exceed 8 mg. Prevention of nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy in children: (Children and adolescents over 6 months of age) Your doctor will decide the dose based on the child's weight or size (body surface area). On the day of chemotherapy: • The first dose is given as an intravenous injection, immediately before treatment. After chemotherapy, the child will usually be given the medicine by mouth as tablets or syrup. On subsequent days: • Oral administration may begin twelve hours after the last intravenous dose and may continue for up to 5 days. Prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting after surgery in adults: • The usual dose for adults is 4 mg given as an intravenous or intramuscular injection. For prevention, this dose is given before surgery. Children: • For children and adolescents over 1 month of age, the dose will be determined by the doctor. The maximum dose is 4 mg given as a slow intravenous injection. For prevention, this dose is given before surgery. Patients with moderate or severe liver problems: The total daily dose should not exceed 8 mg. If you or your child feel unwell: Ondansetron Injection should start to work as soon as it is given. If you or your child are still feeling sick or vomiting, tell your doctor or nurse. If you or your child have been given more Ondansetron Injection than you should have been: Ondansetron Injection will be given to you or your child by a doctor or nurse, so it is unlikely that you or your child will be given too much. If you think you or your child have been given too much or missed a dose, tell your doctor or nurse. If you or your child have an allergic reaction, tell your doctor or medical staff immediately. Signs may include: • Sudden wheezing and chest pain or tightness • Swelling of the eyelids, face, lips, mouth or tongue • Red patches or lumps under the skin (hives) anywhere on the body • Collapse • Headache • Feeling of flushing or warmth • Constipation • Changes in the results of liver function tests (if Ondansetron Injection was given with cisplatin, otherwise this side effect is rare) • Irritation and redness at the injection site • Fits (convulsions) • Unusual body movements or shaking • Uneven heartbeat or chest pain.
