What is it?
International Name - PYRANTEL Clinical-Pharmacological Group: Anthelmintic agent. Composition and Dosage Form: Coated tablets: 1 tab. PYRANTEL ............ 125 mg 1 tab. PYRANTEL ............ 250 mg Oral suspension: 2.5 ml PYRANTEL ........... 125 mg Indications: Ascariasis; Enterobiasis (pinworm infestation); Ancylostomiasis. Dosage and Administration: The drug is taken once. The dose is determined individually based on the patient's body weight. Recommended Dosage: Patients Children under 10 kg - 1 tab. Syrup - 1 spoon Children weighing 10-20 kg - 2 tab. Syrup 2 spoons Children weighing 20-30 kg - 3 tab. Syrup 3 spoons Children weighing 30-40 kg - 4 tab. Syrup 4 spoons Children weighing 40-50 kg - 5 tab. Syrup 5 spoons Adults weighing less than 75 kg - 6 tab. 125 mg, 3 tab. 250 mg, Syrup 6 spoons Adults weighing more than 75 kg - 8 tab. 125 mg, 4 tab. 250 mg, Syrup 8 spoons For the treatment of enterobiasis and ascariasis, the drug is taken once in the recommended doses. In case of enterobiasis, repeated administration of the drug may be necessary after 3 weeks. In case of severe Necator americanis infestation or Ancilostoma duodenale infestation (in an epidemic zone), the drug is taken for 2-3 days in 1 or 2 doses at the following recommended dose: Patients Children under 6 years of age - 2 spoons/10 kg body weight Children over 6 years of age - 2 tab/10 kg body weight 2 tab/20 kg Adults weighing 75 kg - 12 tab. 125 mg, 6 tab. 250 mg, 12 spoons Adults weighing less than 75 kg - 8 tab. 250 mg, 16 spoons In case of mild Ancilostoma duodenale infestation (outside epidemic zones), the drug is taken once a day at a dose of 10 mg/kg. Side Effects: Gastrointestinal tract: Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, decreased appetite, transient increase in liver transaminase activity are rarely observed. CNS: Headache, dizziness, sleep disturbances occur in isolated cases. Allergic reactions: Skin rash is observed in isolated cases. Contraindications: * Hypersensitivity to pyrantel or other ingredients; * Myasthenia gravis; * Liver failure.
