What is it?
Name - Quetiapine Tablets 100mg What is Quetiapine and what is it used for? Quetiapine belongs to a group of medicines called antipsychotics, which contain quetiapine as the active substance. This group of medicines is effective in treating the following psychiatric disorders: • Major depressive episodes associated with bipolar disorder: In this case, you feel sad. You may feel pessimistic, guilty, lose energy, have a reduced appetite, and suffer from insomnia. • Moderate to severe manic episodes during bipolar disorder: You become excessively excited, agitated, happy, curious, or hyperactive (you need less sleep than usual, you talk more, you may notice that thoughts or ideas disappear quickly); or there is a weakness in your ability to make decisions, including aggressive or destructive behavior. • Prevention of manic and depressive episodes in patients with bipolar disorder who have previously responded to quetiapine therapy. • Schizophrenia: You may hear or feel things that are not really there; believe things that are not true or have strange doubts, anxiety, confusion, guilt, tension, sadness. Your doctor may continue to prescribe Quetiapine to prevent the recurrence of symptoms when you feel better. How is Quetiapine used? Proper use instructions and dosage/frequency of use: Always follow your doctor's instructions strictly when using Quetiapine. If you are unsure, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Your doctor will decide your starting dose. The maintenance dose (daily dose) depends on your illness and needs; but it will usually be between 150 mg and 800 mg. Route and method of administration: • You will take the tablets once a day before bedtime or twice a day, depending on your illness. • Swallow the tablets whole with water. • You can take the tablets when you are hungry or during a meal. • Do not drink grapefruit juice when using Quetiapine. This can affect the action of the medicine. • Do not stop taking the tablets without your doctor's recommendation, even if you feel well. Different age groups Use in children and adolescents: The use of Quetiapine in children and adolescents under 18 years of age is not recommended. Use in the elderly: If you are elderly, your doctor may adjust your dose.
