International Nonproprietary Name - Risperidonum Pharmacological group: Neuroleptics Composition: One tablet of Risperidone contains the active substance - Risperidone 1mg, 2mg, 3mg, or 4mg. Indications Risperidone is indicated for the management of acute exacerbations and long-term maintenance treatment of: - Acute and chronic schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders with productive and negative symptoms; - Affective disorders caused by various mental illnesses; - Behavioral disorders in patients with dementia, in cases of aggression (irritability, physical violence), behavioral disturbances (agitation, delusion) or psychotic symptoms; - Behavioral disorders in adolescents over 15 years of age and adult patients with intellectual disability or mental retardation, when destructive behaviors (aggression, impulsivity, autoaggression) are the leading symptoms of the clinical picture of the disease; - As an adjunct therapy - as a mood stabilizer for the treatment of mania in bipolar disorder. Dosage and Administration Schizophrenia: In adults and adolescents over 15 years of age, Risperidone is administered once or twice daily. The initial dose is 2mg per day. On the second day, the dose should be increased to 4mg. Subsequently, this dose can be maintained or individually adjusted if necessary. The optimal dose is 4-6mg per day. In some cases, a gradual increase in dose and relatively low initial and maintenance doses are justified. Doses exceeding 10mg per day do not increase the therapeutic effect and, at the same time, cause the development of extrapyramidal symptoms. The safety of treatment with doses exceeding 16mg has not been studied. Benzodiazepines can be used in combination with Sedarex to achieve an additional sedative effect. Data on the use of the drug in children under 15 years of age are not available. For elderly patients and patients with kidney or liver diseases, the recommended initial dose is 0.5mg twice daily. If necessary, the dose can be increased to 1-2mg twice daily. Behavioral disorders in patients with dementia: The recommended initial dose is 0.25mg twice daily. If necessary, the dose can be increased by 0.25mg twice daily, but not earlier than one day later. For most patients, the optimal dose is 0.5mg twice daily, although sometimes 1mg twice daily is indicated. After reaching the optimal dose, it is recommended to take the drug once a day. Bipolar disorder: The recommended initial dose is 2mg once daily. If necessary, this dose can be increased by 2mg per day. For most patients, the optimal dose is 2-6mg per day. Behavioral disorders in patients with intellectual disability or with dominant destructive behaviors in the clinical picture of the disease: In patients weighing over 50kg, the recommended initial dose is 0.5mg once daily. If necessary, the dose can be increased by 0.5mg, but not earlier than 1 day later. For most patients, the optimal dose is 1mg per day, although in some cases 0.5mg is acceptable or sometimes an increase to 1.5mg per day is necessary. In patients weighing less than 50kg, the recommended initial dose is 0.25mg once daily. If necessary, the dose can be increased by 0.25mg, but not earlier than 1 day later. For most patients, the optimal dose is 0.5mg per day, although in some cases 0.25mg is acceptable or sometimes an increase to 0.75mg per day is necessary.
