Dosage and Administration The drug should be taken according to the doctor's recommendations. Usual dose in adults: In case of high cholesterol concentration: Initial dose: Treatment with Rovastat should be initiated with a dose of 5 mg or 10 mg, even if you were previously taking another statin at a high dose. The initial dose depends on: - Cholesterol level; - Risk of developing heart attack, angina; - Risk of developing side effects due to increased sensitivity. The lowest dose (5 mg) is recommended for: - Individuals of Asian descent (Japanese, Chinese, Filipino, Vietnamese, Korean, and Indian descent); - Patients over 70 years of age; - Patients with moderate kidney problems; - Patients at risk of muscle pain (myopathy). Dose increase and maximum daily dose: The dose can be increased to achieve the optimal dose. If treatment is started with a 5 mg dose, the dose can be doubled to 10 mg, then to 20 mg, and finally, if necessary, to 40 mg. If treatment is started with a 10 mg dose, the dose can be doubled to 20 mg, and then, if necessary, to 40 mg. There should be a four-week interval between each dose adjustment. The maximum daily dose of Rovastat is 40 mg. This dose is intended only for patients with high cholesterol levels and patients at high risk of heart attack, angina, whose cholesterol levels have not decreased adequately with a 20 mg tablet. To reduce the risk of heart attack, angina, or related health problems: The recommended dose is 20 mg per day. However, the dose may be reduced if the above-mentioned factors are present. Usual dose in children aged 10-17 years: The usual dose is 5 mg. The dose can be increased to achieve the optimal dose. The maximum daily dose of Rovastat is 20 mg. The dose should be taken once daily. Rovastat 40 mg is not used in children. Rovastat is taken once daily, at any time of the day, preferably at the same time. Regular cholesterol monitoring is recommended. In case of a missed dose: If a dose is missed, the next dose should be taken at the usual time. Do not take a double dose to compensate for a missed dose. In case of discontinuation: Consult your doctor before discontinuing Rovastat. Discontinuation of the drug may lead to an increase in cholesterol levels. Side Effects Like all medicines, Rovastat can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them. Usually, these side effects are temporary and mild.
