What is it?
International Nonproprietary Name - streptomycin Clinical-pharmacological group: Antibacterial agents → Aminoglycosides → For systemic use Composition and dosage form 1 vial contains streptomycin sulfate, calculated as 1.0 g of streptomycin Packaging 1.0 g powder for preparation of solution for injection in a vial, sealed with a rubber stopper, aluminum cap and plastic cover. Indications Primary tuberculosis of the lungs and other organs, venereal granuloma, tularemia, brucellosis, plague, bacterial endocarditis (in combination with other antibiotics), intestinal infections, urinary tract infections (after determining the sensitivity of the pathogen). Dosage and administration The drug is administered intramuscularly. For adults, the single dose is 0.5-1 g, the maximum daily dose is 2.0 g. For patients with a body weight less than 50 kg or over 60 years of age, the daily dose is 750 mg. For children and adolescents, the daily dose is 15-20 mg/kg of body weight. For children under 13 years of age, the maximum daily dose is 500 mg, for adolescents - 1 g. When treating tuberculosis, the daily dose is administered once; if the drug is not tolerated, the daily dose can be divided into 2 administrations. The duration of treatment is 3 months or more. For infections of non-tuberculous etiology, the drug is administered 3-4 times a day. The duration of treatment is 7-10 days. For patients with hypertension and ischemic heart disease, the initial daily dose of the drug is 250 mg; with good tolerance, the dose is increased. Dose adjustment is required in case of renal failure. Side effects From the urinary system: nephrotoxicity (albuminuria, hematuria). From the nervous system: dizziness, drowsiness, peripheral neuritis, optic nerve neuritis, rarely - neuromuscular transmission disorder (respiratory arrest). From sensory organs: ototoxicity – tinnitus or feeling of fullness in the ears, hearing loss, deafness; vestibular (coordination disorders and others) disorders. From the digestive system: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea. Allergic reactions: skin rash, itching, urticaria. Contraindications Hypersensitivity to streptomycin, obliterating endarteritis, myasthenia gravis, damage to the VIII cranial nerve pair, severe forms of heart and kidney failure, cerebrovascular accident. Pregnancy and lactation The use of streptomycin during pregnancy and lactation is contraindicated. Special instructions During treatment with streptomycin, it is necessary to monitor the function of the kidneys, hearing, and vestibular apparatus. In case of impaired liver and/or kidney function, the daily dose should be reduced.
