Properties

What is it?

International Nonproprietary Name - terbinafine Clinical-pharmacological group: Antifungal agents → Antifungal preparations for external use → Other antifungal preparations Qualitative and quantitative composition Active substance: 0.01g terbinafine hydrochloride in 1g of cream. Indications for use Fungal infections of the skin caused by fungi of the genus Trichophyton (e.g., T. rubrum, T. mentagrophytes, T. verrucosum, T. violacem), Microsporum (e.g., M. canis, M. gypseum), and Epidermophyton floccosum. Skin infections primarily caused by yeast fungi of the genus Candida. For local treatment of pityriasis versicolor caused by Malassezia furfur. Dosage and administration The cream can be used in adults and children over 12 years of age. The duration of treatment depends on the indications and the severity of the infection. Application of the cream The cream is applied once or twice a day to pre-washed and dried skin areas. The cream should be applied in a thin layer to the infected and surrounding areas and rubbed in gently. For infections accompanied by maceration (under the breasts, between the fingers, between the buttocks, in the groin area), a gauze dressing may be applied to the application sites, especially at night. Successful treatment requires addressing the source of the infection. Estimated duration of treatment: Fungal lesions of the skin and groin (tinea corporis, tinea cruris) - 1 week Tinea pedis (athlete's foot) - 1 week Cutaneous candidiasis - 1 week Pityriasis versicolor - 2 weeks Positive dynamics of clinical symptoms in fungal infections, confirmed by mycological examination, are observed within a few days of starting therapy. Irregular examinations and/or premature discontinuation of treatment may lead to relapse. If no improvement occurs within two weeks of starting treatment, the accuracy of the diagnosis should be checked. Children Experience with the use of Terbizil cream in children under 12 years of age is limited, so its prescription for this age group should be done under medical supervision. Use in elderly patients There is no data to suggest that elderly patients require different dosing regimens or experience different side effects than younger patients. Pregnancy and lactation Pregnancy Animal studies with terbinafine have not revealed teratogenic or embryotoxic effects. Animal studies have not shown adverse effects on reproductive function. Reliable controlled clinical studies of terbinafine in pregnant women have not been conducted, so terbinafine is not recommended during pregnancy unless the potential benefit outweighs the possible risk. Lactation Terbinafine is excreted in breast milk. Only minor systemic effects are expected with topical use. The use of the cream during lactation is not recommended. Also, the infant should not come into contact with skin areas treated with the cream, including the skin of the breasts.
