Properties

What is it?

International Nonproprietary Name - TimololumTimoglau 2.5 mg/ml: Timolol maleate eye drops, solution 2.5 mg/ml. Timoglau 5 mg/ml: Timolol maleate eye drops, solution 5 mg/ml. Timoglau is an antiglaucoma agent used to lower high intraocular pressure in the following conditions: - Chronic open-angle glaucoma; - Aphakic glaucoma, even when using lenses; - Ocular hypertension associated with uveitis. How to use Timoglau Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist. After instilling Timoglau, press your finger to the corner of the eye, near the nose (Figure 1) for 2 minutes. This will prevent timolol from entering other parts of the body. To avoid contaminating the solution, do not touch the tip of the dropper to the affected area or surrounding areas. Use in adults - One drop of 2.5 mg/ml solution in the affected eye (eyes) twice a day. If the desired effect is not achieved, the doctor may change the dose to one drop of 5 mg/ml solution in the affected eye twice a day. Use in the elderly - There is no indication that the dose needs to be adjusted. Use in children - Not recommended. Use in special groups - There is no indication that the dose needs to be adjusted. Since it may take several weeks for the condition to stabilize during timolol treatment, your doctor will regularly assess your intraocular pressure. When switching from one antiglaucoma agent to another, other than a topical beta-blocker: - Continue treatment with the old agent and add 1 drop of Timoglau 2.5 mg/ml eye drops to each affected eye twice a day. - The next day, stop the previous medication completely and continue with Timoglau 2.5 mg/ml eye drops, solution. If a higher dose is required, use one drop of Timoglau 5 mg/ml in each treated eye twice a day instead. If you use more Timoglau than you should - Rinse your eyes with plenty of water and consult your doctor. Symptoms of overdose: dizziness, headache, shortness of breath, bradycardia, hypotension, bronchospasm, and acute heart failure. If you forget to use Timoglau - Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose. If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Possible side effects Like all medicines, this medicine may cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. You can continue to use the eye drops, unless the effects are serious. If you are worried, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. Do not stop using the eye drops without consulting your doctor. Like all medicines applied to the eye, timolol is absorbed into the bloodstream. This can lead to the development of side effects similar to those seen with intravenous and/or oral beta-blockers. The frequency of undesirable effects is lower after instillation into the eye than after oral or injection administration. The list of undesirable reactions includes reactions that occur when using the class of beta-blockers used to treat eye diseases. Disorders of the eye: Visual disturbances, including refractive errors (in some cases caused by stopping miotic therapy), diplopia, ptosis. Signs and symptoms of eye irritation (e.g., burning, stinging, itching, increased tearing, redness), eyelid inflammation, corneal inflammation, blurred vision, detachment of the vascular layer beneath the retina, which may cause visual disturbances, decreased corneal sensitivity, dry eyes, corneal erosion, drooping of the upper eyelid, double vision.
