What is it?
Composition Valerian roots and rhizomes contain essential oils (0.5-1%), tannins, free isovaleric acid, alkaloids. Pharmacological properties The plant reduces CNS excitability and exhibits antispasmodic action. Indications Pharmacotherapeutic group: Sedative. Used for increased nervous excitability, insomnia, cardiovascular system neurosis, gastrointestinal tract spasms. Valerian is widely used for mild forms of neurasthenia and psychasthenia, cardiovascular neuroses, early stages of angina pectoris, hypertensive diseases, as well as some liver and biliary tract diseases, and stomach and intestinal spasms. Side effects The preparation is characterized by good tolerability, but overdose can cause drowsiness and a feeling of oppression. Side effects disappear after discontinuation of the plant.
