International Nonproprietary Name - Sertaconazole Dosage Form: Cream for external use. Composition: Active substance: 1 g of cream contains 20 mg of sertaconazole nitrate. Excipients: ethylene glycol and polyethylene glycol palmitostearate, polyglycolized saturated glycerides, glycerin isostearate, paraffin oil, methylhydroxybenzoate, sorbinate, purified water. Description: White soft cream, odorless or with a faint fatty odor. Pharmacotherapeutic Group: Antifungal preparation for topical use. Imidazole and benzothiophene derivative. Indications Superficial mycoses: dermatophytoses; mycoses of the shins, feet, and hands; mycoses of the body; beard mycosis; candidiasis; pityriasis versicolor, seborrheic dermatitis. Method of Administration and Dosage Apply the cream in an even thin layer to the affected skin area, covering approximately 1 cm of surrounding healthy skin, once or twice a day (in the evening or morning and evening). The duration of treatment depends on the etiology of the causative agent and the localization of the infection. As a rule, clinical and laboratory cure of the disease is observed within 2-4 weeks. However, the recommended duration of the treatment course to achieve complete recovery and prevent recurrence is 4 weeks. Side Effects The preparation is characterized by good tolerability when applied to both healthy and damaged skin. A rapidly reversible erythematous reaction may develop at the site of application of the preparation, which does not require discontinuation of the preparation. Contraindications Hypersensitivity to sertaconazole, other components of Zalain cream, or imidazole derivatives. Overdose: Overdose with Zalain cream for external use is unlikely. In case of accidental ingestion of the preparation, symptomatic treatment should be carried out. Special Instructions Do not use Zalain cream in ophthalmology. The use of acidic detergents is not recommended, as an acidic environment promotes the proliferation of Candida group fungi. There is no data on the use of Zalain cream in children. Pregnancy and Lactation In animal studies, sertaconazole did not exhibit embryotoxic or teratogenic properties. The safety of the preparation in pregnant women has not been specifically studied. After topical application of the cream in large doses, sertaconazole is not detected in blood serum, and the possible risk to pregnant women and newborns has not been established. Therefore, the use of this preparation during pregnancy is possible if the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus. During lactation, the cream should not be applied to the mammary glands. There is no data on the use of the preparation during lactation, so if its use is necessary, the issue of discontinuing breastfeeding should be decided with a doctor. Interaction with Other Drugs No interactions between Zalain cream and other drugs have been identified.
