What is it?

International Nonproprietary Name - Amantadinum Pharmacological group: Antiparkinsonian drugs Composition and dosage form: Tablets 1 tab. Amantadine sulfate ....... 100 mg Infusion solution: in a vial 500 ml Amantadine sulfate ......... 200 mg Excipients: Microcrystalline cellulose, potato starch, gelatin, lactose, polyvinylpyrrolidone, talc, magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, titanium dioxide, magnesium stearate, polyaminomethacrylate, yellow-orange dye. Indications: Intensive initial treatment of severe and life-threatening conditions of Parkinson's disease (including akinetic crisis); Temporary discontinuation of oral therapy; Loss of consciousness as a result of traumatic brain injury; Slow recovery from anesthesia; Neuralgia in herpes zoster. Dosage and administration: Tablets Dosage regimen is individual. The preparation is prescribed after meals. Treatment begins as follows: 1 tablet per day for the first three days, the dose is increased in the following days to 2 tablets per day. Further dose increase by 1 tablet per week is possible. In case of combined treatment of parkinsonism, the dose should be selected individually. The last dose is recommended to be taken in the second half of the day, before dinner. In elderly patients, especially those with agitation, confused consciousness, pre-delirium, and delirium, the preparation should be prescribed in small doses. Injection solution Dosage regimen is individual. Generally, 500 ml is prescribed 1-2 times a day. The dose can be increased to 500 ml 3 times a day. The duration of infusion is 3 hours (55 drops/minute). Side effects: ♦ Mental disorders with visual hallucinations, motor or mental agitation, urinary retention in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia, heart failure. ♦ Rarely - arrhythmia, tachycardia, nausea, dry mouth, dizziness, sleep disturbances. ♦ Very rarely - bluish discoloration of the skin of the upper and lower extremities, decreased vision. Contraindications: * Hypersensitivity to the preparation. Decompensated heart failure (NYHA class IV), cardiomyopathy and myocarditis, AV block of II and III degree, bradycardia (heart rate less than 55 beats per minute), prolonged QT interval, history of ventricular arrhythmia, concomitant administration of budipine or other drugs that prolong the QT interval; * PK-Merz infusion solution is not used in patients with acute renal failure (creatinine clearance <10 ml/min); * Relative contraindications: glaucoma, benign prostatic hyperplasia, psychomotor agitation, history of delirium and pre-delirium, psychosis, epilepsy, thyrotoxicosis, acute and chronic liver and kidney diseases; * Pregnancy and lactation.
