What is it?
Amikacin IM IV Solution for Injection. For Infusion 500mg/2ml Vial Composition: Each milliliter of solution contains 250 milligrams of amikacin as the active substance. Excipients are: sodium citrate, sodium metabisulfite, and water for injection. Indications: Serious infections caused by amikacin-susceptible bacteria. Dosage and Administration: The medication is usually administered intramuscularly. It can also be used intravenously by injection or infusion. Amikacin can also be used to irrigate the abdominal cavity during surgery, abscess cavities, pulmonary, and brain cavities. The dose may depend on age, concomitant infection, kidney function, hearing acuity, intake of other medications, and will be determined by the treating physician. Typically, it is prescribed 2-3 times a day for 10 days. Adults and children over 12 years: 15 mg/kg of body weight once daily or divided into two equal doses of 7.5 mg/kg every 12 hours. The total dose should not exceed 1.5g. Children under 12 years: 15-20 mg/kg of body weight once daily or divided into two equal doses of 7.5 mg/kg every 12 hours. Neonates: The initial dose is 10 mg/kg of body weight, followed by 7.5 mg/kg every 12 hours. Premature neonates: 7.5 mg/kg every 12 hours. Pregnancy and Lactation: Inform your doctor about pregnancy or breastfeeding. The medication will be prescribed by the doctor if the expected benefit outweighs the potential risk to the child. Driving and Operating Machinery: Do not drive or operate machinery while taking the medication if any side effects occur that may impair driving abilities. Storage Conditions: Amikacin should be stored out of reach of children, at a temperature not exceeding 25 C. Unused portions of opened vials are not stored for future use. Prepared injection or infusion forms should be used immediately.
