What is it?
Composition and Dosage Form 1 vial contains Ampicillin (as sodium salt) - 0.5 g. Pharmacological Properties Ampicillin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic of the semi-synthetic penicillin group. Its bactericidal action is due to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of bacterial cell walls. Indications Infectious-inflammatory diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to the drug: • Respiratory tract infections (pharyngitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, lung abscess); • ENT organ infections (sinusitis, tonsillitis, otitis); • Kidney and urinary tract infections (pyelitis, pyelonephritis, cystitis, urethritis); • Abdominal organ infections (gastrointestinal tract, gallbladder and bile duct infections, peritonitis); • Skin and soft tissue infections; • Meningitis; • Endocarditis; • Sepsis. Dosage and Administration Before using Ampicillin, the sensitivity of the causative agent of the disease to it should be determined. The drug is administered intramuscularly. For adults, the single dose of the drug is 0.25-0.5 g every 4-6 hours, the daily dose is 1-3 g. In severe forms of infection, the daily dose can be increased up to 10 g or more. The duration of treatment is 7-14 days. For newborns, the daily dose is 100 mg/kg of body weight, for children of other ages - 50 mg/kg of body weight; in severe diseases, the dose can be doubled. The daily dose is administered 4-6 times (every 4-6 hours). The injectable solution is prepared ex tempore. When administered intramuscularly, 2 ml of water for injection is added to the contents of the vial. Side Effects Gastrointestinal system: nausea, vomiting, stomatitis, gastritis. Allergic reactions: skin rash, rhinitis, Quincke's edema. Other: headache, nephritis. Contraindications Hypersensitivity to ampicillin, other penicillins, cephalosporins, and carbapenems; infectious mononucleosis, lympholeukosis, renal failure, gastrointestinal diseases (antibiotic-associated colitis). Pregnancy and Lactation During pregnancy, ampicillin can be used when the expected benefit to the mother clearly outweighs the potential risk of adverse effects on the fetus. The drug is excreted in small amounts in breast milk, so breastfeeding should be discontinued during treatment. Storage Conditions and Shelf Life Store in a dry place at room temperature.
