Properties

What is it?

Active ingredient: Each suppository contains Povidone-iodine, 200 mg. Other ingredients: Macrogol 1000. Pharmacotherapeutic group: Antiseptic. Pharmacological properties: Povidone-iodine destroys microorganisms. It is effective against bacteria, fungi, spores, viruses, and protozoa. Indications: Acute and chronic vaginal infections (colpitis): - Mixed infections - Non-specific infections (bacterial vaginosis, Gardenella vaginalis) - Genital herpes - Fungal infections (Candida albicans), including candidiasis resulting from treatment with antibiotics and steroid preparations. - Trichomoniasis (if necessary, combined systemic treatment may be administered). Preoperative and postoperative treatment: Before and after surgical operations on the vagina, as well as for obstetric and diagnostic procedures. Contraindications: - Hypersensitivity to iodine or any other component of the preparation. - Hyperthyroidism or other pronounced disorders of thyroid function (symptoms: increased heart rate, anxiety), as well as until full recovery after radioactive iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism. - Dermatitis herpetiformis Duhring. - In newborns and infants up to 6 months of age, Povidone-iodine can only be used under strict indications. If necessary, thyroid function control is required. Since it is impossible to rule out the development of hyperthyroidism, prolonged use of Povidone-iodine (longer than 14 days) or its use in large quantities over a wide surface area (more than 10% of the body surface) is not recommended. In patients (especially the elderly) with latent thyroid disorders, its use is permissible only after careful assessment of benefits and potential risks. These patients require monitoring for early signs of hyperthyroidism and appropriate thyroid function studies even after discontinuation of the preparation (for up to 3 months). Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Use of the preparation after the 2nd month of pregnancy and during lactation is possible only under strict indications and requires careful monitoring of the thyroid function of the mother and child. Also, accidental ingestion of suppositories by children should be avoided. In these cases, the preparation can only be used for a short period. Iodine crosses the placental barrier and is excreted in breast milk. Dosage and administration: Betadine suppositories should be removed from the wrapper and, after thorough moistening, inserted deep into the vagina. During treatment with suppositories, the use of sanitary pads is recommended. Dosage: One vaginal suppository should be inserted deep into the vagina in the evening before bedtime. The preparation should be used daily (even during menstruation). If the efficacy is insufficient, the course of treatment may be extended at the doctor's discretion, and the dose may be increased to two Betadine vaginal suppositories daily. The duration of the course of treatment depends on the treatment outcomes. The course of treatment usually lasts for 7 days. Storage conditions: Store in a dry, cool place at 15°C-25°C, out of reach of children!
