ATC code of the preparation: R05C Pharmacotherapeutic group Combined expectorants (except for combinations with antitussives). Pharmacological properties Brovenin is a combined medicinal product for cough and cold, whose therapeutic action is due to the pharmacological properties of its components. Bromhexine hydrochloride – a mucolytic agent with an expectorant effect, thins bronchial secretions by depolymerizing the acidic mucopolysaccharides contained therein and stimulating the secretory cells of the bronchial mucosa, which produce secretions containing neutral polysaccharides. Bromhexine stimulates the production of endogenous surfactant, which ensures the stability of alveolar cells during respiration. Terbutaline sulfate – an adreno mimetic agent, selectively stimulates β2-adrenoreceptors of the bronchi, thereby exerting a bronchodilating effect, increasing mucociliary clearance, and reducing bronchial mucosal edema. Guaifenesin – an expectorant, its action is based on reducing surface tension and the adhesion of sputum to the bronchial mucosa. It enhances the action of the ciliated epithelium of the bronchi and facilitates the removal of sputum from the respiratory tract. Guaifenesin has an anxiolytic effect. Indications for use Acute and chronic bronchopulmonary diseases accompanied by difficult sputum expectoration: bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis, pulmonary emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, tracheobronchitis, pneumonia, pneumoconiosis, pulmonary tuberculosis. Contraindications - Hypersensitivity to the components of the preparation; - Cardiac arrhythmias; - Liver dysfunction; - Peptic ulcer disease of the stomach and duodenum; - Tendency to bleeding; - First trimester of pregnancy, lactation period; - Children under 8 years of age. Method of administration and dosage Brovenin is taken orally 30 minutes after meals. The preparation can be diluted with water or fruit juice. Brovenin is prescribed: For children aged 8 to 12 years – 2.5 ml 3 times a day. For adults and children over 12 years of age – 5-10 ml 3 times a day. The duration of the treatment course is determined by the doctor. Interaction with other medicinal products Simultaneous use of the preparation with sympathomimetics and theophylline enhances the action of terbutaline contained therein and increases the probability of its side effects. When used simultaneously, guaifenesin enhances the action of CNS depressants, as well as ethanol. Bromhexine facilitates the penetration of antibiotics (amoxicillin, erythromycin, cephalexin, oxytetracycline), sulfonamide drugs into bronchial secretions. Simultaneous use with cardiac glycosides, corticosteroids, bronchodilators, diuretics is not contraindicated. Use during pregnancy and lactation The preparation should be used with caution during pregnancy. Brovenin is contraindicated in the first trimester of pregnancy and during lactation.
