What is it?
Cefixime is used for: Cefixime for oral suspension contains cefixime. It belongs to a group of antibiotics called cephalosporins. Cefixime for oral suspension is specially prepared for children. The bottle contains powder, which your pharmacist will mix with water. The suspension is strawberry flavored and ready to use. Cefixime for oral suspension is used to treat bacterial infections, including the following infections: • Ear • Nose, sinus (sinusitis) • Throat (tonsillitis, pharyngitis) • Bronchi and lungs (e.g., bronchitis and pneumonia) • Urinary tract (such as cystitis and kidney infections) The suspension contains: Sucrose: This is a type of sugar. If your doctor has told you that you are intolerant to sugar, talk to your doctor before taking it. How to take: Always use Cefixime oral suspension exactly as your doctor has told you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure. The amount of medication given will depend on your child's weight and age. • Give this medicine to your child by mouth. • Cefixime for oral suspension comes with a measuring spoon that can measure from 3.75 ml to 5 ml. Give your child the medication using the spoon. • The dose can be taken in one dose or divided into two and taken at different times. • If you think the effect of the medicine is too weak or too strong, do not change the dose arbitrarily, but consult your child's doctor. Read the label from the pharmacist carefully. Ask your pharmacist if you are unsure how to give the dose. The medication should be taken during the day. How much to give Usual dose: Adults, the elderly, and children over 10 years of age or weighing more than 50 kg • 10 ml to 20 ml daily, depending on the infection Children aged 5 to 10 years: 10 ml daily Children aged 1 to 4 years: 5 ml daily Children aged 6 months to 1 year: 3.7 ml daily If you stop giving Cefexime oral suspension Do not stop giving the medication without talking to your doctor. Your child should not stop taking Cefexime oral suspension just because they feel better. This can cause the infection to recur and the condition to worsen. Storage conditions: Store the prepared suspension in the refrigerator. Do not freeze. After mixing with water, Cefixime oral suspension can be used for 14 days. Any liquid remaining after 14 days should be returned to your pharmacist. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date, which is indicated on the bottle. Medicines should not be disposed of in wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of any medicine that is no longer needed. These measures will help protect the environment.
