What is it?

International Nonproprietary Name - Ceftazidime Pharmacological Group: III Generation Cephalosporins Composition: Ceftazidime Pentahydrate - 0.5g; 1.0g; or 2.0g; Form: Powder for preparation of solution for injection in vials Pharmacotherapeutic Group: Antibiotic of the third generation cephalosporin group Pharmacological Properties: The preparation exhibits bactericidal activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms. It remains in the body for a long time, is not metabolized, and is mainly excreted by the kidneys (80-90%) unchanged within 24 hours. It is easily absorbed into organs and tissues (including bone tissue), sputum, synovial, pleural, peritoneal fluid, eye tissue and mucous membranes, placental barrier, poorly absorbed through the intact hematencephalic barrier. Indications: Ceftazidime-CMP is used for septicemia, peritonitis, meningitis, severe respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin, soft tissue, bone and joint, gastrointestinal tract infections. Combination of Ceftazidime-CMP with bronchodilators, mucolytics and immunomodulators is possible. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to the preparation, first months of pregnancy, prescribed with caution to patients with liver and kidney diseases. Side Effects: Allergic reactions, changes in the gastrointestinal tract, leukopenia, eosinophilia, increased body temperature, hepatotoxicity and nephrotoxicity are not excluded. Dosage and Administration: Adults are prescribed intramuscularly or intravenously 1g every 8 hours or 2g every 12 hours (up to 6g per day for severe infections). For relatively severe and urinary tract infections, 0.5-1.0g every 12 hours. In case of impaired kidney function, the dose of the preparation is reduced (by 1g every 12 hours and 0.5g every 8 hours). For children up to 2 months of age - 25-50mg/kg per day, over 2 months - 50-100mg/kg per day.
