What is it?
International Name - betamethasone, gentamicine Clinical-pharmacological group: Dermatology → Anti-inflammatory agents → Glucocorticosteroids for external use Dermatology → Anti-inflammatory and antibacterial agents Composition Active substance: betamethasone, gentamycin; 1 gram of ointment contains 1 mg of betamethasone equivalent betamethasone valerate and 1 mg of gentamicin equivalent gentamicin sulfate. Excipients: white soft paraffin, mineral oil. Dosage Form: Ointment Pharmaceutical group: Corticosteroids for dermatological use. Corticosteroids in combination with antibiotics. Betamethasone with antibiotics. ATC code D07C C01. Clinical Features. Indications Dermatoses amenable to treatment with glucocorticosteroids in case of secondary infection or suspected complication caused by microorganisms sensitive to gentamicin: eczema (atopic, infantile, nummular), anogenital and senile pruritus, contact dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, neurodermatitis, intertriginous dermatitis, solar dermatitis, exfoliative dermatitis, stasis dermatitis, and psoriasis. Contraindications Established skin infections (viral, bacterial, including tuberculous, acute fungal), acne. The preparation is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to the active substances or any other component of the preparation. Methods of Administration and Dosage. Apply the cream in a thin layer to the entire affected skin area, twice a day - morning and evening. The frequency of application of the preparation is determined individually, depending on the severity of the disease. In mild cases, it is used once a day; in more severe lesions, more frequent use may be necessary. The duration of treatment depends on the extent and localization of the disease, as well as the patient's response to treatment. However, if no clinical improvement is observed within 3-4 weeks, the diagnosis should be revised. Side Reactions Side reactions are very rarely observed during treatment with the preparation and include increased sensitivity, rash, and skin pigmentation. With prolonged and/or high-dose use, effects such as skin atrophy, telangiectasias, striae, steroid acne, rosacea, as well as perioral dermatitis and hypertrichosis may develop when applied to the affected areas. The possibility of developing systemic effects (hypocorticism, diabetes, osteoporosis) should be considered. Treatment with gentamicin may be accompanied by temporary skin irritation (erythema and itching), which usually does not require discontinuation of treatment. When topical corticosteroids are used under occlusive dressings, the following side reactions may occur: burning sensation, itching, irritation, dry skin, folliculitis, hypertrichosis, acneiform eruptions, hypopigmentation, perioral dermatitis and allergic contact dermatitis, skin maceration, secondary infection, skin atrophy, striae, and miliaria.
