What is it?
Activament Food Supplement 10 ml Oral Solution in Sachet N14 Composition Active Ingredients Per Sachet Citicoline 250 mg Vitamin B6 1.4 mg Vitamin B12 2.5 mcg Other Ingredients: Water, Coloring: E150b; Cola Flavor, Acidity Regulator: Citric Acid; Preservatives: Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate; Sweetener: Sucralose. Pharmacological Action Pharmacodynamics Exogenous intake of citicoline increases the pool of choline available for biosynthetic pathways. It reduces glutamate levels and increases ATP. It protects against neurotoxic damage caused by ischemia. It improves glucose metabolism and brain blood supply. It increases the availability of neurotransmitters (acetylcholine, norepinephrine, dopamine). Citicoline stimulates the dopaminergic system in the brain and retina. As a result, it increases the level of retinal neurotransmitter (dopamine). It improves the function of retinal and postretinal visual pathways in amblyopia. Chronic intake of citicoline increases the density of dopamine receptors and contributes to the partial restoration of function (which normally decreases with age). It stimulates glutathione synthesis, promotes sphingomyelin storage, and improves signal transduction in nerve cells and the retina. Vitamins B6 and B12 ensure nerve cell energy metabolism and myelination. They lower homocysteine levels. They improve neurotransmission and cognitive function. Pharmacokinetics After oral administration, citicoline is well absorbed. Absorption is almost complete and bioavailability is equivalent to parenteral administration. It is metabolized in the intestine and liver into choline and cytidine. It is well distributed in brain structures. The choline fraction is rapidly incorporated into structural phospholipids, the cytidine fraction into cytidine nucleotides and nucleic acids. Only a small part of the dose (<3%) is excreted in urine and feces. Approximately 12% of the administered dose is excreted as exhaled carbon dioxide.
