Properties

What is it?

Composition: Dexamethasone sodium phosphate Indications: Acute and chronic allergic and inflammatory processes; inflammatory diseases of the anterior segment of the eye (conjunctivitis, scleritis, deep keratitis without epithelial defects, iritis, iridocyclitis); inflammatory diseases of the posterior segment of the eye (choroiditis, chorioretinitis, optic neuritis); prophylaxis and treatment of inflammatory events in the postoperative and post-traumatic period. Contraindications: Keratitis caused by herpes zoster, chickenpox, as well as other viral diseases of the cornea and conjunctiva; ocular mycobacterial infections; fungal diseases of the eye; acute purulent diseases of the eye; corneal epitheliopathy; increased intraocular pressure; hypersensitivity to the preparation. Dosage and Administration: For adults and children up to 12 years of age: In acute infectious processes, instill 1-2 drops into the conjunctival sac, initially 4-5 times a day for 2 days, then 3-4 times a day for 4-6 days. In chronic conditions, 2 times a day, for a maximum of 4 weeks. The duration of treatment should not exceed 4 weeks. In the postoperative or post-traumatic period, depending on the intensity of inflammatory symptoms, instill 2-4 times a day, 1-2 drops, for 2-4 weeks. Dexamethasone can be used with other medications used in the treatment of eye diseases (antibiotics, mydriatics). For children aged 3 to 12 years: For the treatment of allergic and inflammatory conditions, instill 1 drop 2-3 times a day for 7-10 days. If necessary, treatment can be continued after 10 days following a fluorescein test (tests for corneal epithelial integrity). Possible Side Effects: Prolonged use of the preparation may lead to increased intraocular pressure (regular measurement of intraocular pressure is necessary when using corticosteroid-containing preparations for more than 10 days). Posterior subcapsular cataract may develop with continuous use for 3 months; slowing of regeneration processes is also possible. Pregnancy and Lactation: During pregnancy, the preparation should be used only when the benefit to the mother clearly outweighs the potential risk to the fetus. Special Instructions: The use of the preparation is not recommended when wearing contact lenses. Contact lenses should be removed before using the preparation and can be reinserted at least 15 minutes after administration. Prolonged use of drops may lead to increased intraocular pressure. Regular monitoring of intraocular pressure is necessary when using the preparation for two weeks or longer. Corticosteroid therapy may mask a current bacterial or fungal infection. In the presence of infection, additional local antimicrobial therapy is required. Effect on Ability to Drive and Use Machinery: The use of the preparation before driving vehicles and operating machinery is not allowed, as tearing is expected. Overdose: In case of overdose, local side effects may develop. In case of allergic reactions, treatment should be discontinued. Instructions for Use: Separate one container and ensure it is not damaged. To open the container, twist the flat end. Do not touch the eyelid with the dropper during instillation. Dosage Form: Dexamethasone 0.15% monodoses N 20 0.3ml. Storage Conditions: Do not store above 25C. Manufacturer: SIFI S.p.A, Italy.
