Properties

What is it?

Indications: Euphyllin is used for the relief of bronchospasm attacks in bronchial asthma and other conditions (bronchitis, emphysema); for hypertension in the lesser circulation, cardiac asthma (especially when accompanied by bronchospasm and Cheyne-Stokes respiration), as well as pulmonary heart disease and disorders of respiratory center function; to improve renal circulation, for the relief of cerebral vascular crises of atherosclerotic origin and to improve cerebral circulation; to reduce intracranial pressure and cerebral edema in ischemic stroke, and in chronic cerebral circulatory insufficiency. Dosage regimen: Euphyllin is administered intravenously during acute attacks of bronchial asthma and stroke. - Intravenously, it is administered slowly over 4-6 minutes at a dose of 0.12-0.24 g (5-10 ml of 2.4% solution, diluted in 10-20 ml of isotonic sodium chloride solution). - In case of tachycardia, dizziness, or nausea, the administration of the drug is slowed down, or administered by drip infusion. For this, 10-20 ml of 2.4% Euphyllin solution (0.24-0.48 g) is diluted in 100-150 ml of isotonic sodium chloride solution and administered at a rate of 30-50 drops per minute. - In children, it is administered intravenously in a single dose of 2-3 mg/kg (by drip infusion). - In children and adolescents aged 7-17 years, Euphyllin is administered at a dose of 13 mg/kg per day. - Patients should be in a lying position during Euphyllin administration. - Due to the development of side effects, intravenous infusion of Euphyllin is not recommended in children under 14 years of age. - When administering the drug rectally and as a microenema, 10-20 ml of the 2.4% solution is diluted in 20-25 ml of warm water. - Intravenous administration of the drug is carried out based on arterial blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and the patient's general condition. - The maximum dose of Euphyllin in adults is - single dose - 0.25 g, and daily - 0.5 g. - In severe cases, especially under resuscitation conditions, the dose can be increased. Contraindications: * Euphyllin is contraindicated (especially intravenous administration) in the presence of paroxysmal tachycardia, extrasystole, severe hypotension, and epilepsy. * Its use is not permitted in heart failure, primarily caused by myocardial infarction (arrhythmia, coronary insufficiency). Pregnancy and lactation: During these periods, the drug can be prescribed only after assessing the expected benefit to the mother and the potential risk to the fetus.
