What is it?

International Nonproprietary Name - Benzalkonium chloride Chemical Name: Dimethyl-alkyl_benzyl_ammonium chloride Dosage Form: Vaginal tablets Composition: Active substance: Benzalkonium chloride 20 mg. Excipients: Dehydrated citric acid, hydrated silicon dioxide, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, lactose, macrogol 6000 in an amount sufficient for one 0.8 g vaginal tablet. Description: Odorless white, slightly porous tablets. Pharmacotherapeutic Group: Local contraceptive. Indications: Local contraception for women of reproductive age and generally in the following cases: temporary or absolute contraindications to oral contraceptives or intrauterine devices; after childbirth and during lactation; pre-menopausal period; during episodic sexual intercourse; during constant use of oral contraceptives when the tablet is taken late or missed. Dosage and Administration: Insert deeply into the vagina while lying on your back no later than 10 minutes before sexual intercourse. Its duration of action is 3 hours. In case of repeated sexual intercourse, the preparation should be used again. Single Dose: One tablet is intended for one sexual intercourse. The frequency of use depends on subjective tolerance to the active substance and the frequency of sexual intercourse. Pharmatex can be used together with an intrauterine device or diaphragm. Side Effects: Allergic reaction (burning, itching) to any component of the preparation, contact dermatitis. In such cases, the use of the preparation should be discontinued. Contraindications: Individuals with impaired psyche who cannot properly use the preparation and who cannot tolerate any interference with the genitals; unacceptability of this type of contraceptive method; hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation; colpitis; irritation and ulceration of the vaginal walls and cervical mucosa; Pregnancy and Lactation: Due to low systemic absorption, the preparation does not enter the blood and breast milk, therefore it can be used during pregnancy and lactation. The preparation does not negatively affect the course of pregnancy. No cases of adverse teratogenic and embryotoxic effects on fetal development have been identified in clinical and experimental use of Pharmatex.
