What is it?

Name - Folium 400mcg #60tabs Indication: Anemia caused by folic acid deficiency (folate-deficient anemia) Treatment and prevention of anemia during pregnancy and lactation Prevention of neural tube defects in the fetus during the first trimester of pregnancy Long-term treatment with folic acid antagonists Breast cancer and colon cancer Inflammatory bowel disease and halitosis Osteoporosis Preeclampsia Folic acid during pregnancy: During pregnancy, the daily requirement for folic acid doubles (400 mcg). This increase is due to the increased needs of the mother and fetus. Its deficiency increases the risk of newborn malformations, particularly neural tube defects, especially anencephaly, spina bifida, and orofacial clefts. Its deficiency may also be associated with a higher risk of intrauterine growth restriction, preeclampsia, and premature placental abruption. To achieve adequate plasma folate concentration, women should start taking folic acid 3-4 weeks before pregnancy and continue throughout the first trimester of gestation. In practice, since the date of conception cannot be determined a priori, periodic supplementation with folic acid in adequate amounts in the diet is recommended for women who are planning pregnancy and for those who do not rule it out. Long-term intake of folic acid does not cause side effects; on the contrary, it can also be beneficial in reducing the risk of reproductive-related pathologies, such as cardiovascular risk. Studies have shown that to prevent folic acid deficiency, infants should be exclusively breastfed for at least 6 months. It was found that mothers who supplemented with folic acid maintained significantly higher plasma folate concentrations than those who did not. In infants who are exclusively breastfed and the mother does not take additional folic acid, the infant's blood plasma folate concentration is normal. It can be said that the folate level in breast milk is high, at the expense of the mother's reserves during lactation, and therefore, supplementation with folic acid during pregnancy and lactation is necessary to maintain the mother's reserves. Recommended daily dose: Take 1 tablet once a day. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.
