What is it?

Qualitative and Quantitative Composition: 1 ampoule 5ml contains: Active ingredient: Meglumine antimoniate - - - - - - - 1.5g (Equivalent amount of antimony - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 0.405 g) Excipients: Potassium disulfite (0.008g), Sodium sulfite anhydrous (0.0009g), Water for injection. Dosage Form: Solution for injection in 5ml ampoules – 5 ampoules per pack. Pharmacotherapeutic classification: Antileishmanial and antitrypanosomal (Parasitology). When this medication should be used (Therapeutic indications) This is an antiparasitic drug. It is used for the treatment of visceral leishmaniasis (Kala-azar) or cutaneous leishmaniasis (except for resistant L. aethiopica). How this medication should be used Dosage and method of administration In all cases, strictly follow the doctor's prescription. ƒ Visceral leishmaniasis: Intramuscular injection – 20mg/kg per day – not more than 850mg of antimony over 20 days. Treatment should continue until the parasite disappears from splenic aspiration for 14 days. In case of recurrence, treatment should be resumed immediately with the same daily doses. ƒ Cutaneous leishmaniasis: ƒ General cases, except for L. braziliensis and L. amazonensis forms: Infiltration of the lesion should only be done in the early stage. Infiltration should be deep enough to reveal whitening at the base of the lesion. When the lesion is numerous, swollen, or in a location where scarring would be unaesthetic, or if lymphostasis or phlebitis is observed, treatment should be systemic. - Local treatment: 1 or 3 ml injection at the base of the lesion, repeated once (or twice if the desired result is not achieved) at 1 or 2 day intervals. - Systemic treatment: Intramuscular injection – 10 - 20mg/kg per day – Treatment should continue until clinical recovery or until the parasite disappears from the fluid obtained by skin scarification for several days. ƒ For L. braziliensis – cutaneous and mucocutaneous leishmaniasis and L. amazonensis mucocutaneous leishmaniasis: Intramuscular injection – 20mg/kg per day – Treatment should continue until clinical recovery or for a maximum of 4 weeks for L. braziliensis and several months for L. amazonensis. Storage conditions Store at a temperature not exceeding +250 C. Keep the preparation out of reach of children!
