What is it?
International Nonproprietary Name - Co-trimoxazole (Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim) Pharmacological Group: Sulfonamides Clinical-Pharmacological Group: Combined antimicrobial agent. Dosage and Administration Regimen Bactrim is recommended to be taken after meals with a sufficient amount of water. Duration of treatment: In case of acute infections, Bactrim should be taken for at least 5 days or for 2 more days after the disappearance of disease symptoms. If no desired effect is observed after 7 days of taking the preparation, the patient's condition should be re-examined for treatment correction. Dosage for Special Cases a) Soft chancre - 2 tablets or 1 tablet Forte twice daily. If no desired result is observed after 7 days, the preparation should be continued for another 7 days. It should also be considered that the absence of the desired effect may be caused by pathogen resistance. b) Acute uncomplicated urinary tract infections: For acute uncomplicated urinary tract infections in women, a single dose of 2-3 tablets Forte is recommended. It should be taken as soon as possible after the evening meal, or before bedtime. c) Patients on hemodialysis - After taking the usual loading dose of the preparation, the repeated dosage will be half or one-third of the standard dose. They should be taken every 24-48 hours. d) Pneumonia caused by Pneumocystis carinii: Up to 20 mg TMP and up to 100 mg SMZ per kg of body weight, divided into equal doses, every 6 hours for 14 days. Side Effects: At recommended doses, Bactrim is well tolerated. The most common side effects are skin rash and gastrointestinal disturbances. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to the preparation or its components. The preparation is not recommended for newborns and premature infants under 6 weeks of age, as well as in cases of severe kidney damage or severe renal failure.
