What is it?
Fludrocortisone (Fludrocortisone acetate) is a synthetic hormone of the adrenal cortex, a fluorinated derivative of hydrocortisone, with potent mineralocorticosteroid activity (regulation of electrolyte balance in the body, mainly sodium and potassium). Fludrocortisone acts on the distal parts of the renal tubules, potentiating the reabsorption of sodium and water, and increasing the excretion of potassium and hydrogen ions. At doses higher than therapeutic, fludrocortisone can suppress adrenal cortex function, thymic activity, ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone) and pituitary secretion, as well as cause a negative nitrogen balance. After oral administration, fludrocortisone is rapidly and completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. It is biotransformed mainly in the liver and excreted in the urine in the form of inactive metabolites. Indications for use: Replacement therapy for primary and secondary adrenal cortex insufficiency in Addison's disease and treatment of adrenogenital syndrome with sodium loss. Cortineff should not be taken in the following cases: - Hypersensitivity to fludrocortisone or any other component of the preparation. - Systemic infection, unless specific treatment is being carried out. The medicinal product should be stored in a place inaccessible to children and covered. Do not use the medicinal product Cortineff after the expiry date indicated on the packaging. Store the medicinal product at temperatures up to 25C in a place protected from light
