- What is Cezera and what is it used for Levocetirizine dihydrochloride is the active ingredient in Cezera. Cezera is an anti-allergy medicine. Cezera tablets are used to treat conditions (symptoms) associated with allergic manifestations such as: - Allergic rhinitis (including persistent allergic rhinitis) - Hives (urticaria) Before taking Cezera Do not take Cezera if: - you are allergic (hypersensitive) to levocetirizine dihydrochloride or any of the other ingredients of Cezera (listed in “What Cezera contains”). - you have severe kidney function impairment (severe renal insufficiency with a creatinine clearance of less than 10 ml/min). Take special care with Cezera The use of Cezera is not recommended in children under 6 years of age, as the available film-coated tablets do not allow dose adaptation. Taking other medicines Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription. Your doctor will advise you whether or not to take these tablets. Taking Cezera with food and drink Use with caution when using Cezera with alcohol. In sensitive patients, the simultaneous intake of cetirizine or levocetirizine and alcohol or other centrally acting agents may affect the central nervous system, although racemic cetirizine has been shown not to increase the effect of alcohol. Pregnancy and breast-feeding Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. Your doctor will advise you whether or not to take these tablets. Driving and using machines Some patients may experience drowsiness, tiredness, and fatigue when taking Cezera. If you plan to drive, perform any hazardous activity, or operate machinery, it is recommended to avoid all such activities until you determine how this medicine affects you. However, special tests have shown that the preparation does not affect alertness, reaction time, or the ability to drive in healthy people after taking recommended doses of levocetirizine. Important information about some of the ingredients of Cezera Cezera contains lactose. If your doctor has told you that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking Cezera. How to take Cezera Always take Cezera exactly as your doctor has told you. If you are unsure, ask your doctor. The usual dose for adults and children over 6 years of age is one tablet per day. In case of kidney problems, you will likely be prescribed a lower dose depending on the severity of the condition. For patients with liver function impairment, the usual dose is prescribed. For patients with both kidney and liver function impairment, a lower dose may be prescribed, depending on the severity of the kidney disease. The dose for children is selected based on body weight and determined by the doctor. Cezera tablets are not recommended for children under 6 years of age. How and when to take Cezera? The tablets should be swallowed whole with some liquid, with or without food. If you take more Cezera than you should Overdose causes drowsiness in adults. In children, initial symptoms may include agitation and excitability, followed by drowsiness. If you have taken more Cezera than you should, consult your doctor, who will decide what measures should be taken. If you forget to take Cezera If you forget to take the medicine or take a lower dose than prescribed by your doctor, do not take a double dose to compensate for the missed dose. Wait until the next dose and continue taking the medicine as usual. If you stop taking Cezera Premature discontinuation of Cezera should not cause significant effects, as the recurrence of symptoms of the condition is progressive and their severity will not be greater than before the start of treatment with the preparation. Common side effects (occurring in less than 1/10 but more than 1/100 patients): Main mild or moderate side effects: - Dry mouth - Headache - Fatigue - Drowsiness/somnolence Uncommon side effects (occurring in less than 1/100 but more than 1/1000 patients): - Decreased energy - Abdominal pain The following side effects have also been reported: - Palpitations - Seizures (convulsions) - Visual disturbances - Swelling (edema) - Itching - Rash - Urticaria (skin swelling, redness, and itching) - Shortness of breath - Weight gain - Muscle pain - Aggressive or agitated behavior - Liver inflammation (hepatitis) - Impaired liver function - Nausea At the first signs of hypersensitivity reactions, stop taking Cezera and seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of hypersensitivity reactions include: swelling of the mouth, tongue, face and/or throat, difficulty breathing or swallowing (angioedema), sudden drop in blood pressure leading to collapse or shock, which can be fatal. If any of the side effects become serious, or if you notice any side effects not listed here, please tell your doctor or pharmacist. Storage conditions for Cezera Keep out of reach of children. Do not use the medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the box after EXP. This medicinal product does not require any special storage conditions.
