What is it?
International Nonproprietary Name - comb. drug Clinical-pharmacological group: Dermatology → Preparations improving tissue trophic and regeneration with antimicrobial action Composition Levomycetin - 0.75g, Methyluracil - 4g and base components. The preparation is a white or whitish-yellow ointment. Pharmacological properties "Levomekol" ointment is characterized by antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory (dehydrating) action. It is active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms - staphylococci, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and E. coli. The preparation easily penetrates deep into tissues without irritating biological membranes. The antibacterial action of the preparation is maintained in the presence of pus and necrotic tissues. The dehydrating action of polyethylene glycol in the preparation is ten times greater than that of a hypertonic sodium chloride solution. Indications "Levomekol" ointment is used for local treatment of purulent wounds, wounds infected with mixed flora (including staphylococci, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and E. coli), and wounds in the first (purulent-necrotic) phase. Dosage and Administration "Levomekol" ointment is used to impregnate sterile gauze bandages, which are then used to fill the wound after standard treatment (mechanical removal of necrotic tissues, treatment of the wound with hydrogen peroxide solution). It is possible to introduce the preparation into purulent cavities using a probe (drainage tube) via a syringe. In these cases, "Levomekol" needs to be warmed to 35-36°C. Dressings are applied daily until the wound is completely cleared of purulent-necrotic mass. Contraindications Hypersensitivity to levomycetin.
