What is it?
International Nonproprietary Name - chloramphenicol Clinical-pharmacological group: Ophthalmology → Antibacterial agents for topical use → Antibiotics Composition 1 ml contains: Active substance: chloramphenicol (levomycetin) - 2.5 mg Indications For the treatment and prophylaxis of infectious eye diseases: • Conjunctivitis • Blepharitis • Blepharoconjunctivitis • Keratitis • Keratoconjunctivitis Dosage and Administration The preparation is used topically, by instillation into the conjunctival sac, 1-2 drops 3-4 times a day. The course of treatment is 5-15 days. Side Effects A mild burning sensation may develop, which quickly subsides. Contraindications Hypersensitivity to the components of the preparation, hematopoietic disorders, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, skin diseases (psoriasis, eczema, fungal diseases), viral and fungal eye diseases, pregnancy and lactation, newborns up to 1 month old, renal and hepatic insufficiency. Special Instructions The preparation cannot be used for prophylaxis. Prescribe with caution to patients undergoing treatment with cytostatics and radiation therapy. Interactions with other drugs: Due to its inhibitory effect on blood circulation, simultaneous administration of levomycetin with sulfonamides is not recommended. Overdose No cases of overdose have been reported.
