What is it?
International Nonproprietary Name - Magnesium sulfas Pharmacological group: Antihypertensive agents International and chemical name: Magnesii sulfas; Basic physical-chemical properties: Clear colorless solution; Contents: 1 ampoule (5 ml) contains 1 g or 1.25 g of magnesium sulfate; 1 ampoule (10 ml) contains 2 g or 2.5 g of magnesium sulfate; Excipients: Hydrochloric acid solution, water for injection. Indications for use. The preparation is used as a sedative, antispasmodic, choleretic, and anticonvulsant agent. It is prescribed for patients in the early stages of hypertensive disease, hypertensive crisis, atherosclerosis, lead colic, and urinary retention, for labor analgesia, pregnancy toxemia; prophylaxis and treatment of hypomagnesemia. Method of administration and dosage. For hypertensive disease of stages I-II, it is administered intramuscularly daily for a course of treatment – 15-20 injections. Additionally, when arterial pressure is lowered, a reduction in the severity of angina may be observed. In hypertensive crisis, 10-20 ml of a 20%-25% solution is administered intramuscularly and intravenously as a slow infusion. For labor analgesia, 5-10-20 ml of a 25% solution of the preparation is administered intramuscularly, and if necessary, magnesium sulfate-darnitsa and analgesics are combined. In late pregnancy toxemia, 10-20 ml of a 25% solution of the preparation is administered intramuscularly 1-2 times per day (can be combined with neuroleptics). In convulsive states, 5-10-20 ml of a 25% solution of the preparation is administered intramuscularly. In lead colic and urinary retention, 5-10 ml of a 10-20% solution is administered intramuscularly, and 5-10 ml of a 5% solution is administered intravenously (also administered as an enema). As a choleretic agent, it is administered orally 1 tablespoon of a 20-25% solution 3 times per day. To correct magnesium deficiency in newborns, a 25% solution of magnesium sulfate is prescribed at a dose of 0.5-0.8 ml/kg of body weight once a day for 5-8 days; in children with severe hypoxia during childbirth, administration begins with 0.2 ml/kg, with an increase in dose to 0.8 ml/kg by the 3rd-4th day. For internal administration of fluids to children, it is necessary to add a 25% solution of magnesium sulfate at a daily dose of 0.5-0.75 mmol/kg, diluting it in the total volume of the solution to be administered. Side effects. Vomiting, difficulty breathing. Contraindications. Hypersensitivity to the preparation. Arterial hypotension, conditions caused by calcium deficiency and respiratory center depression, cachexia. The use of the preparation during pregnancy is not recommended. Special precautions. In case of labor analgesia, the suppression of uterine muscle contractility should be taken into account, which requires the use of labor-stimulating agents.
