What is it?
Name - Siofor XR - Siofor XR 750mg 60 tablets Indications for use Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults, especially in overweight patients, when diet and physical activity alone are insufficient for adequate glycemic control. In adults, Siofor® XR can be used as monotherapy or in combination with other oral antidiabetic drugs, as well as with insulin. Usage The usual starting dose is one tablet of Siofor® XR 500 once daily. After 10-15 days, the dose should be adjusted according to blood glucose level measurements. Gradual dose increase leads to better gastrointestinal tolerance. The maximum recommended daily dose of Siofor® XR 500 is 4 tablets. Dose increase should be done every 10-15 days by 500 mg, gradually reaching the maximum daily dose of 2000 mg, which should be taken with dinner. For patients taking metformin in tablet form, treatment with Siofor® XR should be initiated with a starting dose equal to the daily dose of immediate-release metformin tablets. When switching from other oral antidiabetic agents, the latter should be discontinued and Siofor® XR should be started at the dose indicated above. Pregnancy Uncontrolled diabetes mellitus during pregnancy (whether it develops during pregnancy or is pre-existing) can increase the risk of congenital anomalies and perinatal mortality. Limited experience with metformin use in pregnant women does not indicate an increased risk of congenital anomalies. Animal studies have not revealed any adverse effects of the drug on pregnancy, embryonic or fetal development, parturition, and postnatal development (see section 5.3). To reduce the risk of fetal developmental defects, it is recommended that pregnant women and women planning pregnancy be treated with insulin rather than metformin to maintain blood glucose levels as close to normal as possible. Breastfeeding Metformin is excreted in breast milk. No adverse effects were observed in newborns/infants when taking metformin with breast milk. However, since data on the use of the drug in this case are obtained from a small number of patients, it is not recommended for women taking metformin to breastfeed. The decision on the advisability of refusing breastfeeding should be made considering the benefits of breastfeeding for the child and the potential risk of adverse effects of the drug. Shelf life 3 years. This medicinal product does not require special storage conditions.
