International Nonproprietary Name - miconazole Clinical-pharmacological group: Antifungal agents → Antifungal preparations for topical use → Azole group Composition 1 vaginal suppository contains: Active substance: Miconazole nitrate 1200mg Excipients: Witepsol S 55, Tween 80 Description White vaginal suppository Pharmacotherapeutic group Antifungal medicinal product for topical use Indications for use For vulvovaginal candidiasis, vaginal suppository Mikotran®, used as a single dose. Also, vaginal suppository Mikotran® is used for fungal, vaginal (especially caused by Candida spp.) and mixed infections caused by fungi and gram-positive bacteria (staphylococci, streptococci, micrococci, causing secondary infection) Contraindications Hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation Method of administration and dosage For the treatment of vulvovaginal candidiasis, vaginal suppository Mikotran® is administered as a single dose. 1 vaginal suppository is inserted deep into the vagina at night, before sleep. If necessary, repeated use of the preparation is possible after three days. The preparation should not be used without consulting a doctor. Mikotran® suppositories are not used during menstruation due to possible decrease in efficacy and difficulty of use. Before using the vaginal suppository, wash and dry your hands. Assume a horizontal position and slightly raise your legs. Insert the suppository into the vagina as deeply as possible. Try to remain in a lying position for half an hour. After using the vaginal suppository, wash your hands again. Elderly patients (over 65 years): recommendations are the same as for young people Children: Not prescribed for children Not for use in virgins Do not swallow and do not use in any other way Use during pregnancy and lactation Due to the lack of sufficient data on the use of vaginal suppository Mikotran® in the first trimester of pregnancy, the preparation is not used. Vaginal suppository Mikotran® can be used in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy in cases of acute necessity under medical supervision. The effect of vaginal suppository Mikotran® on breastfeeding mothers has not been precisely determined. Side effects Some patients (2-6%) may experience increased vaginal symptoms such as vaginal burning and itching after using vaginal suppository Mikotran®. In addition, they may experience pelvic muscle spasms (2%), headaches (1.3%), very rarely - urticaria. If adverse effects occur, consult a doctor.
