What is it?
International Nonproprietary Name - meldonium Clinical-pharmacological group: Metabolic disorders → Agents affecting tissue metabolism → Preparations for improving tissue metabolism and energy supply and reducing tissue hypoxia Composition 1 ml of solution for injection contains 100 mg of meldonium 5 ml (1 ampoule) - 500 mg of meldonium Excipients: water for injection Indications In complex therapy of ischemic heart disease (angina pectoris, myocardial infarction), chronic heart failure and dishormonal cardiomyopathy, as well as in complex therapy of acute and chronic cerebrovascular disorders (cerebral stroke and cerebrovascular insufficiency). Hemophthalmia and hemorrhages in the retina of various etiologies, thrombosis of the central retinal vein and its branches, retinopathies of various etiologies (diabetic, hypertensive). Decreased work capacity, physical overexertion (including in athletes), Abstinence syndrome in chronic alcoholism (in combination with specific therapy for alcoholism). Bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive bronchitis (as an immunomodulator in combination therapy). Dosage and administration Due to the possible development of an exciting effect, it is recommended to take it in the first half of the day. 1. Cardiovascular diseases. As part of complex therapy, 0.5 – 1 g per day intravenously (0.5 g/5 ml solution for injection – 5-10 ml), with simultaneous administration of the total dose or divided into 2 doses. Course of treatment 4-6 weeks. 2. Cerebrovascular disorders. Acute phase - 0.5 g once daily intravenously for 10 days, followed by transition to oral administration. General course of treatment – 4-6 weeks. Chronic disorders – oral dosage form is used. Repeated courses (usually 2-3 times a year) are possible after consulting a doctor. 3. Vascular pathology and dystrophic diseases of the retina. Parabulbar administration of 0.5 ml of solution for injection 0.5 g/5 ml for 10 days. 4. Mental and physical overexertion, including in athletes. 0.5 g intravenously once daily. Course of treatment – 10-14 days. If necessary, treatment is repeated in 2-3 weeks. Athletes are prescribed the oral dosage form. 5. Chronic alcoholism. Intravenously - 0.5 g twice daily. Course of treatment – 7-10 days. 6. Bronchial asthma. Oral dosage form is used. Side effects Rarely – allergic reactions (redness, rash, itching, swelling), as well as dyspeptic events, tachycardia, decreased or increased blood pressure, excitation. Pregnancy and lactation The safety of the drug during pregnancy has not been proven. To avoid possible adverse effects on the fetus, it is not prescribed during pregnancy. It is not known whether the drug is excreted in breast milk. If treatment with mildronate is necessary for the mother, breastfeeding is discontinued.
