What is it?

International Nonproprietary Name - oxymetazoline Clinical-pharmacological group: Otorhinolaryngology → Vasoconstrictors for topical use Composition: 1 ml of solution contains: Active substance: Oxymetazoline hydrochloride 0.1 mg Oxymetazoline hydrochloride 0.25 mg Oxymetazoline hydrochloride 0.5 mg Excipients: Citric acid monohydrate Sodium citrate dihydrate Glycerol (85%) Benzalkonium chloride (50% solution) Purified water Description Solution is almost transparent, from colorless to pale yellow. Pharmacotherapeutic group Alpha2-adrenomimetic agent. Indications • Treatment of acute respiratory diseases accompanied by rhinitis • Allergic rhinitis • Vasomotor rhinitis • To restore drainage in inflammation of the nasal cavity, nasal passages, eustachitis, otitis media • To relieve swelling in the nasal passages before diagnostic procedures. Contraindications Atrophic rhinitis; hypersensitivity to the components of the preparation. Recommended concentrations of the preparation intended for different age categories must be observed. With caution In patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors and other drugs that promote increased blood pressure; increased intraocular pressure, especially in angle-closure glaucoma; during pregnancy and lactation, in severe forms of cardiovascular diseases (hypertension, angina); in thyrotoxicosis and diabetes mellitus. Pregnancy and lactation During pregnancy or lactation, the recommended dosage should not be exceeded. The preparation should be used only after careful assessment of the risk-benefit ratio for the mother and fetus. Method of administration and dosage Method of administration and dosage 0.01%, 0.025% and 0.05% nasal drops. Adults and children from 6 years of age: 0.05% is administered 1-2 drops in each nostril 2-3 times a day. Children from 1 to 6 years of age: 0.25% is administered 1-2 drops in each nostril 2-3 times a day. Children under 1 year of age: In infants up to 4 weeks of age, 1 drop of 0.01% is prescribed in each nostril 2-3 times a day. From the 5th week of life and up to 1 year - 1-2 drops in each nostril 2-3 times a day. To ensure dosage accuracy, the bottle of Nazivin 0.01% drops has a graduated pipette with markings for the number of drops. For example, if 1 drop is prescribed, the pipette should be filled with solution up to the 1 mark. The effectiveness of the following procedure has also been confirmed: Depending on age, moisten cotton wool with 1-2 drops of 0.01% solution and clean the nasal cavities. 0.01%, 0.25% and 0.05% drops are used for 3-5 days. Higher doses than recommended can only be used under medical supervision. Side effects Sometimes: burning or dryness of the nasal mucosa, sneezing. In rare cases: after the effect of use wears off, a strong feeling of nasal congestion (reactive hyperemia) is observed. Repeated overdose with local nasal use sometimes causes systemic sympathomimetic effects such as increased pulse rate (tachycardia) and increased blood pressure. Very rarely, anxiety, insomnia, fatigue, headaches, and nausea have been reported.
