What is it?

International Nonproprietary Name - Timololum Pharmacotherapeutic group: Non-selective beta-adrenoblockers. Antiglaucoma agents. Composition: 1 ml of the preparation contains 0.5% Active substance: Timolol maleate 6.83 mg, equivalent to Timolol content 5.00 mg Excipients: Monobasic sodium phosphate, Dibasic sodium phosphate, Benzalkonium chloride, Sodium hydroxide, Water for injection. ATC code of the preparation: S01ED01 Indications: - Increased intraocular pressure (ocular hypertension); - Open-angle glaucoma; - Glaucoma in aphakic eyes and other types of secondary glaucoma; - As an adjunct to lower intraocular pressure in angle-closure glaucoma (in combination with miotics); - Congenital glaucoma (when other therapeutic measures are insufficient). Contraindications: The preparation Normatin is not indicated in the following cases: Hypersensitivity, bronchial asthma (including in history), chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, cardiogenic shock, acute and chronic heart failure, atrioventricular block of II-III degree, sinoatrial block, sinus bradycardia (less than 45-50 beats per minute), sinus node sick sinus syndrome, dystrophic corneal diseases, acute allergic inflammation of the nasal mucosa, breastfeeding, early childhood (premature and newborn infants). Dosage and administration: The initial dose of the preparation is 1 drop of 0.5% solution, administered twice daily. Since the stabilization of intraocular pressure is observed several weeks after the start of Timolol administration, the treatment effect is assessed after 4 weeks. Transferring a patient undergoing local therapy with other beta-adrenoblockers to Timolol is done on the day following the administration of the last daily dose of the latter, with 1 drop of the 0.5% preparation twice daily. In monotherapy with an antiglaucoma agent for local use not belonging to the group of beta-adrenoblockers, 1 drop of Timolol 0.5% solution is additionally prescribed twice daily in the affected eye for the first few days. On the next day, the previously used antiglaucoma agent is discontinued, and treatment with Timolol is continued. Interactions with other medicinal products: Consult your doctor when taking other medications. Special instructions: If the patient wears soft contact lenses, Normatin eye drops should not be used, as the preservative may get onto the contact lenses and have an adverse effect on the eye tissues. Contact lenses should be removed before instilling the preparation and reinserted only after 15 minutes. Side effects: Systemic reactions are rarely observed.
