What is it?
Omega-3 Fish Oil Capsules 1000 mg Omega Elegans Food Supplement Composition Each soft gelatin capsule contains: Fish oil rich in Omega-3 fatty acids 1000 mg Contains: Eicosapentaenoic acid 180 mg Docosahexaenoic acid 120 mg Indications Adjuvant treatment after myocardial infarction For secondary prevention after myocardial infarction, in addition to other standard therapies (e.g. statins, antiplatelet drugs, beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors). Hypertriglyceridemia Endogenous hypertriglyceridemia as a dietary supplement when dietary measures alone are insufficient to achieve adequate results: - Type IV in monotherapy, - Type II b/III in combination with statins, when triglyceride control is insufficient. Pharmacodynamics Omega-3 series polyunsaturated fatty acids, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), are essential fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acid is active on plasma lipids by reducing triglyceride levels as a result of the decrease of VLDL (very low density lipoprotein) and the substance is also active on hemostasis and arterial pressure. Omega-3 fatty acid reduces triglyceride synthesis in the liver, as EPA and DHA are poor substrates for the enzymes responsible for triglyceride synthesis and they inhibit the esterification of other fatty acids. An increase in peroxisomal beta-oxidation of fatty acids in the liver also contributes to the fall in triglycerides, by reducing the amount of free fatty acids available for their synthesis. Suppression of this synthesis reduces VLDL. Omega-3 fatty acid increases LDL-cholesterol in some patients with hypertriglyceridemia. The increase in HDL-cholesterol is only slight, significantly less than that observed after administration of fibrates, and not consistent. Long-term lipid-lowering effects (after more than one year) are not known. Otherwise, there is no strong evidence that triglyceride reduction reduces the risk of ischemic heart disease. During treatment with Omega-3 fatty acid ethyl esters 90, thromboxane A2 production is reduced and there is a slight increase in bleeding time. No significant effect on other coagulation factors is observed. Pharmacokinetics During and after absorption, there are three main pathways for the metabolism of omega-3 fatty acids: - fatty acids are first channeled into the liver, where they are incorporated into various categories of lipoproteins and then delivered to peripheral lipid stores; -cell membrane phospholipids are exchanged with lipoprotein phospholipids and fatty acids may act as precursors for various eicosanoids. -most are oxidized to meet energy requirements. The concentration of omega-3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA, in plasma phospholipids corresponds to the EPA and DHA incorporated into cell membranes. Dosage and administration Take one soft gelatin capsule daily with food or as prescribed by your doctor. Take with water. Contraindications Hypersensitivity to the components of the preparation. Drug interactions Omega-3 fatty acid is taken with warfarin without hemorrhagic complications. However, prothrombin time should be checked when omega-3 fatty acid is taken with warfarin or when treatment with omega-3 fatty acid is discontinued. Pregnancy and lactation Pregnancy There is no adequate data on the use of omega-3 fatty acid in pregnant women. The potential risk in humans is unknown and therefore omega-3 fatty acid should not be used during pregnancy, except in essential cases. Lactation There is no data on the excretion of omega-3 fatty acid in animal and human milk. Omega-3 fatty acid should not be used during lactation. Overdose and treatment There are no special recommendations. Carry out symptomatic treatment. Side effects The frequency of adverse reactions is classified as follows: frequent (>1/100, <1/10); infrequent (>1/1000, <1/100); rare (>1/10000, <1/1000); very rare (<1/10000), including isolated reports. Infections and infestations: infrequent: gastroenteritis, Disorders of the immune system: infrequent: hypersensitivity, Disorders of metabolism and nutrition: rare: hyperglycemia, Disorders of the nervous system: infrequent: dizziness, dysgeusia, rare: headache, Disorders of the vascular system: very rare: hypotension, Disorders of the respiratory system, thoracic and mediastinal: very rare: nasal dryness, Gastrointestinal disorders: frequent: dyspepsia, nausea, infrequent: abdominal pain, indigestion, gastrointestinal upset, upper abdominal pain, rare: gastrointestinal pain, very rare: lower gastrointestinal bleeding, Hepatobiliary disorders: rare: liver disorders, Disorders of the skin and subcutaneous tissue: rare: acne, pruritic rash, very rare: urticaria, General disorders and administration site conditions: rare: III-type disorders, Investigations: very rare: increase in white blood cell count, moderate increase in transaminases due to increased lactate dehydrogenase in the blood, observed in patients with hypertriglyceridemia. Warnings and precautions Warnings Due to a moderate increase in bleeding time (in case of high dosage, i.e. 4 capsules), patients undergoing anticoagulant therapy should be monitored and, if necessary, the anticoagulant dose should be adjusted. The use of this medication does not exclude the need for monitoring that is normally required for this type of patient. Consider the increased association of bleeding in patients at high risk of hemorrhage (severe trauma, surgical intervention, etc.). Due to the lack of data on its efficacy and safety, the use of this preparation in children is not recommended. Omega-3 fatty acid is not indicated in exogenous hypotriglyceridemia (type 1 hyperchylomicronemia). There is limited experience with secondary endogenous hypertriglyceridemia (especially in uncontrolled diabetes). There is no experience with hypertriglyceridemia in combination with fibrates. Special precautions are required for regular monitoring of liver function (ASAT and ALAT) in patients with impaired liver function (in case of high dosage, i.e. 4 capsules). Storage conditions Store below 30 °C. Protect from light and moisture. Dosage form Soft gelatin capsules. Presentation Omega Elegans is available in packs of 3 x 10 blisters.
