International Name - PANCREATIN Clinical-Pharmacological Group: Enzymatic preparation. Composition and Dosage Form: 1 dragee PANCREATIN ..... 250 mg with minimum enzymatic activity: Amylase ................ 3500 FIP units; Lipase ................ 4300 FIP units; Protease ........... 200 FIP units. Pharmacological Properties: Pancreatin is a preparation derived from the pancreas of pigs and cattle. It contains the enzymes amylase, lipase, and protease, which are essential for the breakdown of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. Pancreatin, produced in dragee form, has high bioavailability because it dissolves in the duodenum, ensuring optimal enzyme action. Indications: Mild chronic exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. Dosage and Administration: Dosage is determined individually and depends on the frequency of defecation, and the volume and consistency of fecal matter. Usually, PANCREATIN is prescribed in a dose of 1-2 dragees during meals, with an additional 1 dragee. Sometimes 3 dragees are prescribed during midday meals, which should be swallowed whole, without chewing, with water. To reduce steatorrhea, more than 3 dragees may be taken during meals, but in case of nausea, vomiting, or constipation, it is necessary to stop taking the preparation immediately. Side Effects: Nausea, vomiting. With high doses of the preparation, the development of hyperuricemia and hyperuricosuria is expected. Contraindications: * Hypersensitivity to proteins of animal origin; * Acute pancreatitis. Pregnancy and Lactation: In pregnant women, the preparation is used only when the expected benefit to the mother significantly outweighs the potential risk to the fetus. During lactation, only in exceptional cases. Special Instructions: ♦ To increase the bioavailability of pancreatic enzymes, H2-blockers or antacids that do not contain Mg2+ and Ca2+ ions can be used together with PANCREATIN, especially in patients with increased gastric juice secretion. ♦ During treatment with PANCREATIN, folate control is necessary, especially when using H2-blockers and bicarbonates. If necessary, folate supplementation may be used. ♦ The dragee should be swallowed whole, not chewed, and not held in the mouth for a long time. Storage Conditions: The preparation should be stored in a place protected from children.
