What is it?
International Nonproprietary Name - pantoprazole Clinical-pharmacological group: Gastroenterology, Hepatology → Proton pump inhibitors Composition The preparation Pantoprazole Sodium (Pantoprazole Sodium) contains pantoprazole sodium sesquihydrate as the active substance. Indications Treatment and prevention of gastric or duodenal ulcers; gastric and duodenal ulcerative lesions caused by NSAID intake. Reflux esophagitis; Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and other pathological conditions caused by increased gastric secretion. Eradication of Helicobacter pylori (in combination with antibacterial treatment) Dosage and administration The average therapeutic dose is 40 mg per day, the maximum daily dose is 80 mg. The duration of the treatment course depends on the indication, but should not exceed 8 weeks. Take on an empty stomach or with breakfast. When taken twice daily, the second dose is taken before dinner. Side effects Gastrointestinal system: diarrhea, nausea, upper abdominal pain, flatulence. CNS: headache, dizziness. Allergic reactions: rarely – skin rash, itching, skin hyperemia, anaphylactic reactions. Miscellaneous: myalgia, weakness, visual disturbances, very rarely liver dysfunction, jaundice, photosensitization. Contraindications Dyspepsia of neurotic origin, malignant diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, hypersensitivity to pantoprazole. Age under 16 years. Pregnancy and lactation During pregnancy and lactation, pantoprazole is prescribed only when the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the possible risk to the fetus or infant. Breastfeeding should be discontinued during lactation. Special instructions In case of impaired liver function, the daily dose of the preparation should not exceed 20 mg. In patients with impaired kidney function, the daily dose of the preparation should not exceed 40 mg. In elderly patients, the daily dose should not exceed 40 mg. The safety and efficacy of pantoprazole in pediatric practice have not been established. The preparation is not used in children. Endoscopic control of the gastrointestinal tract is necessary before and after treatment to rule out malignant diseases, as treatment with pantoprazole may mask the symptoms of malignant diseases and hinder correct diagnosis. When taken concurrently, pantoprazole may alter the absorption of drugs whose bioavailability depends on gastric pH.
