What is it?
International Nonproprietary Name - Olopatadinum Composition: Each ml contains: Olopatadine hydrochloride - 2.22 mg, equivalent to 2.00 mg olopatadine Excipients: anhydrous monobasic sodium phosphate, anhydrous dibasic sodium phosphate, sodium chloride, disodium edetate, polysorbate 20, benzalkonium chloride, purified water q.s. Clinical Pharmacology Mechanism of Action Olopatadine is a selective H1-receptor antagonist and an inhibitor of histamine release from mast cells. It has also been shown to reduce chemotaxis and suppress eosinophil activation. Indication: Patadin Plus 0.2% is indicated for the treatment of ocular itching associated with allergic conjunctivitis. Drug and Food Interactions Information not available Contamination of dropper tip and solution As with any eye drops, contamination of the solution and dropper tip should be prevented. Caution should be exercised, and the dropper tip should not touch the eyelids or surrounding areas. Close the bottle cap tightly when not in use. Contact Lens Use In case of eye redness, the patient should not use contact lenses. Patadin Plus 0.2% (Olopatadine hydrochloride ophthalmic solution) is not indicated for eye irritation caused by contact lenses. Absorption of Patadin Plus 0.2%, benzalkonium chloride may occur with soft contact lenses. Patients who use soft contact lenses and do not have red eyes should wait ten minutes after instilling Patadin Plus 0.2% before inserting contact lenses. Instructions for Use a. Wash your hands, sit or stand comfortably. b. Remove the outer protective cap (you can discard it). c. Remove the inner tip. Hold the inner tip. d. Pull down the lower eyelid of the affected eye with your finger. e. Bring the dropper close to the eye without touching the eye. f. Gently squeeze the bottle to instill one drop into the eye, then remove your finger from the lower eyelid. g. After using Patadin Plus 0.2% ophthalmic solution, press your finger into the corner of the eye, near the nose, for 2 minutes. This will prevent olopatadine from entering the entire body. h. Repeat the same steps for instilling into the second eye as prescribed by your doctor. i. Replace the dropper tip after each use. If you are using Patadin Plus 0.2% ophthalmic solution with other eye drops, wait at least 5 minutes between instilling Patadin Plus 0.2% ophthalmic solution and any other eye medications. Incompatibility Information not available Adverse Reactions: Pharyngitis and cold-like syndrome were observed in approximately 10% of cases. The following adverse reactions were observed in 5% or less: Ocular: blurred vision, burning or stinging pain, conjunctivitis, dry eye, foreign body sensation, hyperemia, hypersensitivity, keratitis, eyelid edema, pain, and itching of the eye. Non-ocular: asthenia, back pain, influenza syndrome, headache, increased cough, infection, nausea, rhinitis, sinusitis, and altered taste. Some of these events were similar to the underlying disease. The patient should be aware that if they experience any discomfort or possible adverse reaction not described, they should immediately consult a doctor or pharmacist and determine if treatment with Patadin Plus 0.2% ophthalmic solution can be continued.
