What is it?
International Nonproprietary Name - dexamethasone, neomycin, Polymyxin B sulfate Clinical-pharmacological group: Otorhinolaryngology → Antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory agents for topical use Composition Dosage form: Ear drops Composition and quantitative content per 100 ml: Active ingredients: Neomycin sulfate – 1 g, equivalent to 650,000 IU; Polymyxin B sulfate – 1,000,000 IU; Dexamethasone sodium metasulfobenzoate - 0.100 g. Other components: Thiomersal, lithium chloride, citric acid, sodium hydroxide, polyethylene glycol, 400, polysorbate 80, distilled water. Pharmacological properties A combined preparation for topical use in otolaryngology. The therapeutic effect of Polydexa is due to the anti-inflammatory action of dexamethasone and the antibacterial action of antibiotics - neomycin and polymyxin B. The combination of these antibiotics broadens the spectrum of antibacterial action of the preparation against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms causing infectious-inflammatory diseases of the external and middle ear. Neomycin is active against the following bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae. Polymyxin B is active against gram-negative bacteria: Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Streptococcus spp. are resistant to these antibiotics. Indications - External otitis; - Infectious eczema of the external auditory canal; - Acute otitis media without damage to the tympanic membrane. Dosage and administration Adults: 1-5 drops in each ear 2 times a day for 6-10 days. Children: 1-2 drops in each ear 2 times a day for 6-10 days. Duration of treatment – not more than 7-10 days. Before using ear drops, it is recommended to warm the bottle in your hands to avoid unpleasant sensations caused by the instillation of cold liquid into the ear. After instilling the preparation into one ear, it is necessary to tilt the head in the opposite direction for a few minutes, only after that it is possible to instill into the other ear. Side effects Allergic reactions may develop, in rare cases skin rash. Contraindications - Infectious or traumatic damage to the tympanic membrane; - Hypersensitivity to the components of the preparation. Special instructions Before starting treatment, it is necessary to examine the tympanic membrane. Its use is not recommended in case of damage to its integrity. Overdose Due to low absorption of the preparation into the bloodstream, overdose is unlikely. Drug interactions The preparation is incompatible with monomycin, streptomycin, gentamicin, amikacin, netilmicin in combination (due to increased ototoxic effect).
