What is it?

International Nonproprietary Name - rivaroxaban Clinical-pharmacological group: Hemostasis → Antithrombotic and anticoagulant agents Rivaroxaban is: Round, biconvex, light red, film-coated tablets, with an "I" score on one side. • For the prevention of venous thromboembolism following orthopedic surgery of the knee or hip. • For the treatment of blood clots in the veins of the lower extremities (deep vein thrombosis) and lungs (pulmonary embolism) and for the prevention of recurrence. Rivaroxaban is an antithrombotic agent that acts by blocking the blood clotting (Factor Xa) pathway, thereby reducing the ability of blood to clot. Dosage and administration Take rivaroxaban exactly as prescribed by your doctor. If you have any questions, consult your doctor. What dose of rivaroxaban to take: - Prevention of venous thromboembolism following orthopedic surgery of the knee or hip: The recommended dose of rivaroxaban is 10 mg once daily. - Treatment of blood clots in the veins of the lower extremities (deep vein thrombosis) and lungs (pulmonary embolism) and prevention of recurrence: The recommended dose of the drug prescribed by your doctor is 10 mg once daily. After at least 6 months of antithrombotic treatment, your doctor may consider continuing treatment with either one 10 mg tablet once daily or one 20 mg tablet once daily. Rivaroxaban can be taken with or after meals. If you have difficulty swallowing, you can crush the rivaroxaban tablet immediately before taking it, mix it with water or soft food (e.g., applesauce), and take it in this form. In some cases, it may be necessary to administer the crushed rivaroxaban tablet through a gastric tube. When to take rivaroxaban: Take rivaroxaban every day as prescribed by your doctor. To easily remember the time of administration, take the tablet at the same time each day. The duration of treatment will be determined by your doctor. The duration of treatment with the drug after orthopedic surgery on the knee or hip depends on the type of surgery performed, specifically: • For patients who have undergone major hip surgery, treatment for 5 weeks is recommended. • For patients who have undergone major knee surgery, treatment for 2 weeks is recommended. The first dose of the drug after surgery should be taken 6-10 hours after the completion of the surgery. If you take more rivaroxaban than you should, contact your doctor immediately. Taking more rivaroxaban than recommended increases the risk of bleeding. If you forget to take rivaroxaban: - If you forget to take your tablet at the scheduled time, take it as soon as you remember. Take your next dose the following day and continue taking the drug according to the recommended regimen. Do not take a double dose to compensate for a missed dose. Stopping rivaroxaban: Do not stop taking rivaroxaban on your own without informing your doctor beforehand, as the drug is intended for the prevention and treatment of serious conditions. If you have any further questions, consult your doctor. Side effects Like all medicines, rivaroxaban may cause side effects in some patients, although not everyone gets them. Like other similar drugs (antithrombotic agents), rivaroxaban can cause life-threatening bleeding and, consequently, a sudden drop in blood pressure (shock). In some cases, bleeding may be occult.
